A Conversation on Mental Health with Impact Award Winner Jordan

Jordan Tabor | Product and Solutions Sales Specialist | United States

What inspired you to join Dell, and what has your journey been like so far?

I was drawn to Dell for its mix of innovation at scale and a genuine commitment to customers and communities. I saw a company that wasn’t just selling technology, but helping organizations modernize and simplify how they run, and I wanted to be part of that impact.

My journey so far has been challenging, fast‑paced, and rewarding. I’ve grown into more of a trusted advisor—spending time understanding customers’ business needs and aligning the right Dell solutions. I’ve also built strong partnerships with technical, product, and partner teams, and experienced a collaborative, learning‑focused culture that supports my development and keeps me excited about what’s next.

What’s the most rewarding part of your role at Dell?

The most rewarding part of my role is acting as a true problem‑solver for customers—really understanding their challenges and then connecting them with the right Dell solutions to make a measurable difference. I also love the teamwork across sales, technical, and partner teams to create those outcomes together.

How has Dell supported your passion for making a difference in your community?

Dell has supported my passion for making a difference in the community by giving me both the platform and the flexibility to get involved. I’ve been able to participate in Dell-sponsored community and education initiatives, align with organizations I care about, and use our technology and expertise to support students and schools.

On top of that, Dell’s culture genuinely encourages volunteering and outreach, so it feels like community impact is part of the job!

What inspired you to start the Rain Will Bring Flowers Foundation?

I started the Rain Will Bring Flowers Foundation after the loss of our son, Owen. Losing him to suicide shattered our world, and my wife and I knew we couldn’t let that pain be the end of his story. We wanted to turn our grief into purpose by doing everything we could to keep other families from experiencing the same heartbreak. Our mission—to prevent suicide through awareness, education, and unwavering support—comes directly from that promise. We focus on bringing real, practical suicide prevention and mental health education into schools and communities, because I believe that if more students, parents, and educators are equipped to recognize the signs and have hard conversations, more kids can be saved. In many ways, the foundation is how we honor Owen’s life: by bringing hope, tools, and support to as many young people and families as we can.

How do education, technology upgrades, and scholarships help drive suicide prevention and mental wellness?

Education, technology upgrades, and scholarships work together to prevent suicide and strengthen mental wellness.

  • Education gives students, parents, and educators the language, skills, and confidence to recognize warning signs early, have hard conversations, and connect someone to help before a crisis—while also reducing stigma around talking about mental health.
  • Technology upgrades ensure students have reliable access to counselors, crisis resources, and digital wellness education, and that schools can create safer, more flexible learning environments where kids don’t feel left behind or disconnected.
  • Scholarships reduce financial stress and help build the next generation of mental health professionals—especially when they’re tied to behavioral health fields and carry a story like Owen’s, turning loss into hope for other families.
What’s one story from your work with students that really touched your heart?

After the session, a student waited until almost everyone had left, then came up and said something like, “I’ve been feeling a lot of the things you talked about, and I didn’t know how to tell anyone. Now I think I need to talk to my counselor.” We walked over together and made sure they were connected to support.

What touched me most wasn’t just that they asked for help—it was realizing that if Owen’s school and peers had had this kind of training and language, things might have been different for him. Moments like that are painful and hopeful at the same time, and they’re exactly why I keep doing this work.

What advice would you give to others who want to turn personal challenges into purpose-driven impact?

When you’ve lived through something hard, you don’t have to rush to “fix” it—be human first and give yourself space to grieve. Then:

  • Get clear on your why: what pain do you never want someone else to experience?
  • Start small—one school, one event, one conversation—and let consistent actions grow into real impact.
  • Use your story as fuel, but build programs, partnerships, and supports that outlast you.
  • Surround yourself with people who share the mission, because this work is too heavy to carry alone.

For me, every student we reach is a way to honor Owen—not by erasing the pain, but by turning it into something that might help someone else stay.

If you could have a conversation with any mental health advocate—past or present—who would it be and why?

I would love to have the opportunity to partner with Drew Brees, who lost his mother to suicide.
