Empowering Communities: Meyvis' Volunteer Journey at Dell

Meyvis Nuñez | Accounting Advisor | Panama

What inspired you to join Dell, and what has your journey been like so far?

I was inspired to join Dell because I was looking for a new challenge after spending time living in Canada. Dell was my first experience working in a multinational company, and I was drawn to its global impact, inclusive culture, and strong commitment to social responsibility. My journey so far has been transformative—I’ve not only grown professionally in my role, but I’ve also discovered a deep passion for leading community impact initiatives and contributing to something much bigger than myself.

What’s the most rewarding part of leading Dell Panama’s volunteer strategy?

The most rewarding part is witnessing the genuine dedication of our team members. Seeing everyone come together to create meaningful activities that positively impact our community is an incredible return. Moments where NGO partners express their gratitude—whether for donations or the time we dedicate—remind me why this work matters so much. Those smiles and heartfelt “thank yous” are truly priceless.

How does Dell’s culture empower you to drive such high participation and impact?

Dell’s culture empowers me through trust, flexibility, and openness. Even though volunteer leadership is not part of my formal role, the company encourages me to take initiative. Leading site-level volunteer programs and the True Ability Panama chapter has allowed me to develop and strengthen my leadership skills. Dell fosters an environment where passion is recognized and supported, and that has been key to driving strong participation and meaningful impact.

What motivated you to focus on youth education and mental health programs?

My motivation comes from wanting to maintain a healthy balance between my job, my family, and the activities I’m most passionate about. Youth education and mental health are areas that deeply resonate with me, and contributing to programs that support these causes allows me to align my personal values with my community work.

Seeing everyone come together to create meaningful activities that positively impact our community is an incredible return. Those smiles and heartfelt 'thank yous' are truly priceless.

Tell us about your partnerships with Junior Achievement and Glasswing—what makes them special?

As a mother, and as someone who grew up in a lower-middle-class community, I understand firsthand how difficult it can be to access quality education and find opportunities to grow. That’s why working with organizations like Junior Achievement and Glasswing is so meaningful to me. They focus on empowering young people from communities similar to the one I grew up in, providing them with knowledge, skills, and hope. Being part of that mission is truly special.

What’s one story from your volunteer work that really touched your heart?

Stories of resilience always touch me deeply. Knowing that a single opportunity or a moment of support can open new doors for someone—helping them overcome challenges and continue growing—is incredibly powerful. There are also moments when we meet families going through difficult situations that we may not be aware of, and our support becomes that small push they needed to keep going. Being seen, being understood, and feeling that someone cares… those moments stay with me and inspire me every day.

What advice would you give to others who want to make a difference in their local communities?

Start small. At Dell, we have so many ways to get involved. Join an Employee Resource Group (ERG), participate in a single activity, or volunteer with a local project. If you’re anything like me, passion will draw you in, and soon enough you’ll find yourself wanting to do even more. Every small action contributes to a bigger impact.

What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?

People might be surprised to know how much I love listening. Whenever I can, I take the time to listen to others—their stories, their challenges, their joyful moments. Even when I can’t solve their problems, I believe that being heard is incredibly important. This curiosity and empathy also fuel my love for studying and learning about a wide range of topics.

If you could spend a day with any changemaker—past or present—who would it be and why?

I would choose Deonte Thompson because I admire how he has used his highly technical role to drive innovative and impactful volunteer initiatives. I would love to exchange best practices with him and explore new ways to bring creativity and innovation into our volunteer activities. His ability to combine expertise with purpose truly inspires me.
