Principal User Experience Designer
Boomi is a highly collaborative, rapidly-growing product development company that designs a cloud-native platform for enterprise architects, data stewards, business analysts, and administrators to unite everything in their digital ecosystem, so that they and their customers achieve better outcomes, faster. The products we design enable our customers to build complex processes with ease and familiarity through a visual interface; manage and synchronize data across domains; and control the creation, deployment and management of APIs—all made possible by making it faster and easier to link data, systems, applications, processes, and people.
Boomi is consistently named as a leader in iPaaS, and as one of Philadelphia’s Best Places to Work. For more information about Boomi, visit http://www.boomi.com
As a Principal-level product designer, you’ll influence our organization and the user experience of our platform. We’re seeking a highly-experienced, T-shaped generalist to join our growing UX practice and evolve the product design discipline. If you are a research-driven Interaction Designer with strong verbal and visual communication skills, attention to detail, and a team-oriented spirit—let’s talk. You’ll be essential to ensuring that our product solutions are optimized for customer needs, and help them attain their goals.
This team is seeking someone with unique skills and qualities, to add to the diversity of the User Experience organization, but we want someone who shares a knack for understanding user needs and expectations, and manifesting them in useful, usable, desirable solutions.
We want someone who takes initiative, and feedback. You’ll be working side-by-side with other Product Designers, as well as the UX Researchers, Content Strategists, and Design Technologists who comprise the UX Organization. You’ll also be working closely with Product Owners, to inform and influence product strategy through evidence-based design recommendations. We’re a fluid, collaborative, cross-functional team — you’ll also be working closely with Quality Engineers, Developers, and Program Managers.
We are currently a fully-remote company, due to COVID-19, and will remain a remote-friendly company once we can safely return to site. We are headquartered in Chesterbrook PA (the greater Philadelphia area), and have product teams that were colocated in Philadelphia PA, Cambridge MA, and Exeter UK offices — when it’s safe to do so, occasional travel will be required (<10% travel). Boomi is a relaxed environment, with intelligent, supportive colleagues. Our product offices have brightly colored walls, and lots of whiteboard surfaces — our Zoom rooms have a wildly eclectic range of backgrounds, with the welcomed (if not always intentional) addition of pets, children, and partners.
This role reports to the Director of User Experience.
Your responsibilities include:
Understanding complex technological concepts and communicating them in simplified, visual form
Collaborating and communicating across teams and roles
Designing with consistency, an attention to detail, and with a knowledge of inclusivity and accessibility
Exhibiting familiarity with qualitative research methods and knowing how to incorporate research findings into designs
Contributing to our Design System, UI guidelines, and their maintenance, including ownership of the stewardship and communication of patterns to product teams
Thinking both conceptually and pragmatically about product strategy to ensure that Boomi remains an industry leader
Setting clear expectations and guidance for the designers supporting your efforts, and effectively managing “up”
An insatiable curiosity, a collaborative spirit, and a growth mindset – strong alignment with our team’s Core Values
A solid history of leading design efforts for product development, or complex business systems and applications, as well as leading others in those efforts
Strong empathy for our customers, and the ability to represent their business needs in optimally-designed experiences (sketches, wireframes, and prototypes)
Exceptional verbal and visual communication skills
A commitment to excellence over perfection — you must be comfortable working nimbly with ‘just enough’ data to make informed decisions and operate within a fast-paced agile environment
Work samples and/or case studies that show us how you work through the process, and the outcome of those efforts
Experience educating non-designers on the value of UX—and the patience and perseverance to do so
Strong business acumen, and a considered, clearly-articulated design philosophy
The interest and ability to mentor others
Familiarity with rapid prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, InVision, Sketch, Axure), and Creative Cloud
Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize
Ability and interest in occasional travel spanning 2-5 days at a time (<10% travel)
The desire to collaborate, with the ability to operate independently
The ability to provide and accept constructive criticism in a timely and direct manner — Radical Candor is our team’s feedback framework
Experience working in Agile environments
Working familiarity with HTML and CSS
A ‘niche’ area of strength, e.g., information architecture, technical abilities, conceptual designer, visual design, design systems, content strategy, etc.
Involvement in the UX community

Demonstrate Open-minded Curiosity: Ask questions, try new things, and recognize that there is always more to learn.
Give a Damn:Demonstrate your passion for the work, the Content and UX communities, and helping others grow; challenge respectfully, but directly.
