The Role

We’re looking for an experienced UX Researcher with a focus on qualitative methods to join our User Experience team. 

You’ll play a critical role in shaping the direction of our work at Boomi, from Discovery through Implementation. You’ll guide the discovery process to ensure that we’re defining and prioritizing features of value, and assess and measure usability to identify areas of improvement. This is a unique opportunity to join an emerging research niche within a highly-valued UX team, as we expand our research strategy and its role in the Agile development cycle. 

This team is seeking someone with unique skills and qualities, to add to the diversity of our group, but we want someone who shares a knack for analyzing and understanding user needs and expectations, in order to effectively advocate for them. 

We want someone who takes initiative, as well as feedback. In addition to working under the guidance of the Head of UX Research Strategy and Operations, you’ll be working side-by-side with UX Design peers to sometimes drive, and sometimes support the research activities they perform. We’re a fluid, collaborative product team: you’ll also be working closely with Quality Engineers, Developers, Technical Writers, Program Managers, and Product Owners. Additionally, you’ll be establishing relationships with the users of our platform: both internal users, and external customers. 

We are currently a fully-remote company, due to COVID-19, and will remain a remote-friendly company once we can safely return to site. We are headquartered in Chesterbrook, PA, and have product teams that were colocated, in Philadelphia PA, Cambridge MA, and Exeter UK offices — when it’s safe to do so, occasional travel will be required (<10% travel).

This role reports to the Director of User Experience.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Advocating UX Research best practices and processes to support our team’s success

  • Exhibiting broad knowledge of qualitative research methods and how/when to apply them

  • Learning complex technological concepts, and then communicating them in plain language

  • Identifying opportunities for improvement, and validating their impact through discovery and research methods

  • Running usability tests

  • Writing and presenting findings to internal stakeholders, such as Product Managers and the Executive Leadership team

  • Collaborating and communicating across teams and roles

  • Contributing to the development of user personas and use cases 

  • Analyzing the outcomes of usability testing and user research and interviews, and making recommendations based on your findings

  • Demonstrating aptitude, if not experience, to think both conceptually and pragmatically about product strategy to ensure that Boomi remains an industry leader

  • Flexibility and adaptability: you must be comfortable with ‘just enough research’ and be able to operate within an agile environment

  • Occasional travel spanning 2-5 days (<10% travel)


Required Skills:

  • Professional experience conducting research efforts for product development and/or complex business systems and applications. Must provide examples of your work: a portfolio, website, or dropbox of case studies and outcomes

  • A considered, clearly articulated design philosophy with an open mind, and an insatiable curiosity

  • Strong empathy for our customers and the ability to discover and define their business needs

  • Background in User Experience and a broad skill set of qualitative research methods

  • Experience facilitating design workshops, requirements-gathering research and with comfort conducting usability testing outside of a lab

  • Familiarity with WCAG 2.1 guidelines, and a value for designing inclusively


Preferred skills

  • Visual thinkers with an affinity for the whiteboard

  • Experience working in Agile environments

  • Familiarity with collaborative and rapid prototyping tools (e.g., InVision, Miro, Sketch)

  • Experience with online testing tools, such as Optimal Workshop

  • Understanding and familiarity with quantitative research

  • Involvement in the UX community
