Senior Principal Hardware Engineering Technologist/Telecom Customer Liaison

Join us as a Senior Principal Engineering Technologist in Dell’s Telecom Systems Business (TSB) hardware engineering team.  This team is focused on the architecture and development of the platforms that comprise the hardware stack of Dell’s TSB product portfolio. 

What you’ll achieve

You will have a comprehensive understanding of the requirements of a key customer’s full solution and help them optimally incorporate Dell’s infrastructure into their architecture.  You will collaborate with our customer’s CTO and architects to co-develop solutions to meet their needs and will help drive the architecture and definition of server, storage, and networking platforms to represent their next generation solutions. 

You will:

  • Be the primary engineer/architect liaison with a large telecommunications customer located in Denver, Colorado (Relocation assistance is available or role is open to remote US workers with an expectation for business travel to Denver one week per month)
  • Collaborate with internal Dell teams i.e., product management, system level architects, development teams etc. and Dell hardware/software partners to architect and engineer features needed to make Dell and Dell’s customer successful.
  • Identify improvements to the architecture or to the system configurations and incorporate changes into the specification of future generations of the infrastructure products
  • Drive independent research on the applicability of alternative hardware architectures, considering many design aspects across performance, power, thermal, and cost
  • Develop product dimensioning models to aid in optimization of Dell’s solution proposals that advance the customer’s needs

Essential Requirements

  • 15+ years of relevant experience or equivalent skill; must include experience with hardware design and/or architectural experience for enterprise server, enterprise storage, laptops, desktops or embedded appliances
  • Strong knowledge of Intel Xeon roadmap and/or AMD/ARM architectures with experience designing systems around related CPU architectures
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills; you will be working extensively with customers, internal teams and external partners so having these skills is critical
  • Experience implementing and/or validating implementations of industry standard specifications
  • Demonstrated ability to engage across various disciplines: BIOS, power, network protocols, signal integrity, etc., to provide architectural and implementation recommendations into engineering design teams

Desirable Requirements

  • Knowledge of Telecom systems (RU, BBU, CU, DU, vRAN etc.) and/or Telco standards & protocols including precision network timing (SyncE/PTP)
  • Undergrad or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications

Dell is committed to fair and equitable compensation
practices. The base salary range for this position is $151,200-$208,120
