We are seeking an Edge Operating System Architect to define and drive Edge Compute operating environment features that includes system and OS level features, security, virtualization, and lifecycle management for Dell’s rapidly expanding Edge Business.

What you’ll achieve

The Dell Technologies Edge Portfolio team is developing a North Star architecture and SW Platform that enables Dell to win at the edge by providing a system that will manage Edge estates, orchestrate outcomes, and provide a vehicle for Dell to expand its offerings into multiple Edge vertical markets. The Edge Platform Architect role is a broad and deep role that requires one to drive the architecture and design of software features and capabilities that span the entire product architecture from the edge compute endpoint through the edge estate management and orchestration platform. Examples would be to define and drive security features for zero trust architectures, secure onboarding, zero touch provisioning, edge estate management, cloud stack integration, application virtualization and more. The ideal candidate will be a senior technical leader and architect who has had prior experience with ground up system design, development, and delivery to market. This senior technical leader would work directly with our Chief Architect and Edge CTO to define and drive the architecture, technical strategies, and features for Dell to win at the Edge.

As a member of the technical staff of our edge architecture team, you will be responsible for architecting and driving the realization of Dells Edge Operating Environment that can meet the unique constraints at the Edge.

You will:

  • Work with the Edge CTO and Chief Architect to define and drive end-end features for an Edge Horizontal Platform

  • Work with Product Management teams to refine the architecture and requirements

  • Work with Solutions Engineering teams to build and validate the architected solutions

  • Work with Engineering Development teams to build out a robust solution

  • Own strategic features and strategies for Dell’s horizontal platform

  • Responsible for code reviews and resolving technical disputes

Essential Requirements

  • Requires 15+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 12+ years with a Master’s degree; or 8+ years with a PhD; or equivalent experience in a system architect capacity

  • Ability to drive results through collaboration across organizational boundaries in a large company

  • Proven delivery of products to market

  • Virtualization integration experience – Kubernetes and Linux based hypervisors

  • Physical and Virtual Network virtualization design and integration experience

  • C/C++ experience

  • Experience working across variety of virtualization platforms (XEN, KVM, VMware, etc.)

  • Very Strong systems and platform knowledge of Linux

  • Strong knowledge of BIOS, EFI, Boot loaders

  • Strong understanding of hardware and system architecture (to include CPU and PCI/bus architectures) - Intel and others and technologies

  • Strong understanding of security, including new and/or emerging industry specifications and practices as it relates to firmware and operating systems

Desirable Requirements

  • Working knowledge in core Dell Technologies hardware/software offerings and the ability to align/integrate/leverage/influence to meet requirements and delivery timeframes

  • Ability to scale and mentor others

  • Ability to direct a global team of engineers and architects

  • Ability to influence internally and externally

  • A member of the Dell Technical Leadership Community

  • Experience with modern languages (Go, Rust)
