What you’ll achieve

This technology team works with other CTO teams, Product teams and the Strategy team to incubate new ideas and create a technology vision for Dell’s Storage and Data Protection products.  This team’s thought leadership is critical for Dell’s future success. 

As a Principal Engineering Technologist you will work closely with various teams and leaders to drive research, incubation, positioning and adoption of upcoming Technology, Architecture and Innovation necessary to craft Dell’s next-generation storage and data protection products to meet the demands of a changing world. 

Working at the cutting edge, we collaborate with brilliant technologists across Dell Technologies and leading industry technology companies and communities.

Location: Remote US

You will:

  • Incubate ideas from senior leadership and staff members to help prove out viability of concepts and direction.   For example:  Investigate and create POCs for offloading of various storage services onto SmartNICs and other smart devices
  • Develop POCs related to technologies of interest
  • Provide technical expertise and support for next generation initiatives when moving POCs and newly generated IP into Product Teams
  • Generate IP including invention disclosures, blogs, and/or technical white papers
  • Conduct presentations to peers, cross functional teams and director level of leadership
  • Own a few technology areas and may assist in highly complex product offerings
  • Investigate emerging technologies, vendor products, and competitor’s offerings
  • Understand appropriate technologies, vendor products and competitor’s offerings
  • Understand Dell’s long-term business goals and objectives


Essential Requirements:

  • Solid computer science and engineering knowledge in computer architecture, distributed systems, networking, scaling, performance, reliability, and high availability
  • Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages such as C/C++, python, JAVA, Golang
  • Ability to interface effectively with 3rd parties and partners to ensure they are doing research and providing information on technology that has value to Dell, instigating and coordination these efforts as necessary
  • Effective communication ability through presentation, interpersonal, verbal and written skills

Desirable Requirements:

  • Understanding of modern software development processes including test-driven development, continuous integration, continuous testing and deployment
  • Knowledge of VMware, Docker, Kubernetes, cloud technologies

Required Skills:

  • 8+ years of related experience in a professional role with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6+ years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3+ years’ experience; or equivalent experience
  • Understanding of modern software development processes including test-driven development, continuous integration, continuous testing and deployment
  • Knowledge of VMware, Docker, Kubernetes, cloud technologies

Key Responsibilities
