What you’ll achieve:

This technology team works with other CTO teams, Product teams and the Strategy team to incubate new ideas and create a technology vision for Dell’s Storage and Data Protection products.  This team’s thought leadership is critical for Dell’s future success.  The Sr. Principal Engineering Technologist will work closely with the Pathfinding Team Sr. Director, Value Stacks Software CTO and staff, peers in other CTO teams and Storage / Data Protection Product teams as a partner and consultant to drive the research, incubation, positioning and adoption of upcoming Technology, Architecture and Innovation necessary to craft Dell’s next-generation storage and data protection products to meet the demands of a changing world.  Working at the cutting edge, we collaborate with brilliant technologists across Dell Technologies and leading industry technology companies and communities.

From applied research to advanced engineering, the Engineering Technologist team has the expertise to shape ground-breaking products, material and processes. It’s a fascinating field of work. We’re involved in assessing the competition, developing technology and product strategies and generating intellectual property. We lead technology investigations, analyze industry capabilities and recommend potential acquisitions or vendor partner opportunities. Our insights influence product architecture and definitions. And we work with colleagues across the business to ensure our products always lead the way.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Explores technology trends with senior leadership to Assist in conceiving and vetting of strategic technological and architectural concepts

  • Lead and participate incubation of ideas from senior leadership and staff members of the Software Value Stacks CTO team

  • Provides expertise and leadership in the design and implementation of technological initiatives

  • Lead and mentor more junior members of the Dell technological community

  • Participates in internal and industry forums where appropriate

  • Provides expertise on multiple technologies/products

  • Generates IP including multiple invention disclosures per year

  • Owner of multiple or highly complex technologies

  • Assist product teams as required when working tactical/time-to-market development issues

    You will:

    Essential Requirements

    Advanced level of knowledge or capability in many of the following areas:

    • Understanding of appropriate technologies, vendor products, and competitor's offerings

    • Understanding of Dell’s long-term business goals and objectives

    • Understanding of modern software development processes including test-driven development, continuous integration, continuous testing and agile development

    • Knowledge of VMware, Docker, Kubernetes

    • Extensive experience in infrastructure software design and development, abstractions, programmability, protocols and scaling.  Experience in solution development and design

    • Ability to conduct presentations to peers, cross- functional teams and director level of leadership

    • Ability to mentor and lead peers within the technical community

    Required Skills:

    • 12+ years of related experience in a professional role with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8+ years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5+ years experience; or equivalent experience

    • Knowledge of a product technology and system level integration

    • Experience designing and implementing Enterprise and Mid-range storage, secondary storage and/or Data Protection software
