Senior Software Engineer

Dell Technologies’ Customer Experience Engineering In-Market Engineering Development (IMD) team is seeking a hands-on, passionate, results-oriented, inventive Senior Software Engineer. Candidates should understand software development, have excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills, be able to deliver quick fixes for customer hot issues, have excellent communication skill, and be eager to improve product quality and reliability. You will work with the product development, sustaining, validation teams, and product management to ensure product/code quality and customer satisfaction. You will be involved in driving continuous process improvements for the evolution of IMD development procedures. This team has worldwide coverage and serves as the face of In-Market Engineering Development to other groups within Dell Technologies. What you’ll achieve

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will join a high-performing team that helps resolve complex technical customer issues and drives product improvements that delight our customers. You will utilize a range of applicable technologies (e.g., programming languages, compilers, assemblers, debuggers, other tools) for products used in local, networked, storage enhancements and/or new systems. Modify existing software products to add new functions, adapt to new hardware, improve performance, or enhance product usability. Assist with the implementation of new or additional storage technologies to improve infrastructure service, both locally and remotely.

You will:

  • Code in a variety of languages, primarily C, C++ and Python
  • Analyze the bugs coming from the customers’ live field and think of the technical solution for it
  • As part of scrum team working on new features: Analyze requirements, help to create design, working on documentation, implement functionality, cover new functionality with tests, work with QA team on test plan, etc.  
  • Work effectively with cross-functional and/or cross-geographic teams, readily share information with others and co-work with global IME Validation Team to improve IME KPI and Metrics and drive global team.
  • Mentor junior team members
  • Contribute to the culture of quality throughout our broader engineering organization.
  • Possess an aptitude in exploring new technologies and understanding how to apply them to new product releases and in customer facing support scenarios

Essential Requirements

  • 5-8+ years of software development experience with computer systems and at least Bachelor's degree in engineering, math, science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Excellent python, C/C++ multithreaded programming skills, hands-on experience with distributed systems and excellent understanding of data structures and algorithms
  • Good understanding of hardware and software interactions, and able to code/debug moderately complex programs
  • Knowledge of storage networking architectures and application, along with storage/network protocols and connectivity
  • Expert software architecture, design, implementation, test, debugging and problem-solving skills in one or more of the following areas: NAS Storage protocols (NFS, HDFS, SMB etc.); Filesystems (working with LINs, iNodes, etc..); Unix and/or Windows system fundamentals; Networking technologies; Data Replication technologies; Clustering technologies.
  • An understanding of the UNIX operating environment such as system configuration, memory management, system calls, multiplexed I/O, and concurrency models.
  • Ability to work successfully as part of a team and lead the projects. Sense of urgency, attention to details and quality, good team player with very good written and verbal communication skills. Strong motivation to learn new things and embrace change.

Desirable Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Experience with network file systems or object protocols such as SMB, NFS, or S3 interfaces in shippable software/services.
  • Knowledge of authentication, identity management and authorization concepts
  • Extensive understanding of multithreaded, asynchronous, kernel-mode programming concepts
  • Hands-on experience developing for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server or other similar operating systems.
