VMWare Tanzu Data Services tackles the technical challenges that come with massively parallel distributed systems operating on petabytes of data across thousands of nodes. We delve into areas like query optimization, high-performance in-memory transaction and query processing, parallel and distributed execution of advanced data processing algorithms, resource management, and storage. On this team, you'll be working on hard, worthwhile problems with a collaborative team, accelerating your growth as a Data Engineer.
You are a Data expert with strong a strong and broad skillset coupled withdeepexperience implementing and buildingPostgres based systems. The Data Engineer role at VMWare Tanzu Data is to focus on customer success, enablement, and technology optimization for ourCustomers. Providing Data Solutions for our Customers will require strong technical, analytical and consultative skills.
What You’ll Be Doing
You will be responsible for consulting with our clients to provide deep technical and business expertise with regards to the VMWare Tanzu Data Services portfolio of products and many other data technologies. Additional job responsibilities include the ability to architect solutions and install, connect, and use these products. You will interface directly with customers and collaborate with our Data Scientists on engagements. You will also work withVMWare ,Data Tanzu Engineering and Product Management as the “tip of the spear” for the development of products and enhancements.
Required Skills and Experience
Deep,architect level knowledge and experience building,deploying, and managingsystems leveraging a variety of data technologies,with a particular emphasis on Postgres
Specific experience performing large-scale migrations from common database technologies (Oracle,MySQl,etc) to Postgres.
Understanding of traditional DW/BI components (ETL, Staging, DW, ODS, Data Marts, BI Tools)
Intermediate programming and computation skills, preferably with Perl, Python Java, BASH/Shell Scriptingand/or C/C++
Strong SQL programming skills
System administration of Linux is required
Understanding of the hardware and networking architecture behind large scale systems
Familiarity with standard statistical/BI packages to perform analytic calculations
Understanding of a variety ofcommonly-usedanalytic techniques and the models underlying them
Experience working within a project-based organization; an understanding of different project methodologies and operating practices
Ability to work with product teams, data scientists, and other stakeholders as well as assist them with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure
Excellent verbal and written communications skills along with the ability to present technical data and approaches to both technical and non-technical audiences
Experience with cloud infrastructure architectures and use: AWS, Azure, GCP
Operational knowledge of vSphere, Kubernetes , Docker, containers
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with little to no supervision
Desired Skills and Experience
Experience with Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) data warehouses such as Greenplum, Teradata, Netezza, Exadata, Azure SQL Data Warehouse, Redshift, and/or Hadoop.
Datascience experience. AI/ML, GIS, MADlib, etc
A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, related field or equivalent experience
