What you’ll be doing
You will be working In the VMware Tanzu Labs team, helping clients to design and deliver modern, mission-critical, cloud-native platforms with the VMware Tanzu portfolio of products.
As a Technical Program Manager (TPM), you will manage a program of diverse client engagements from large scale transformation projects to smaller implementation engagements, always ensuring the clients outcomes are achieved through close collaboration and coordination across multiple teams. This might be a portfolio of different engagements, or a single engagement depending on the stage of relationship VMware has with any given client, at any given time. It is a billable and client facing role. The TPM role has 4 groups of stakeholders to keep aligned: the Client, the Service Delivery team(s), Delivery Leadership, and the Account Team. A successful TPM will inspire continuity and collaboration across these groups of stakeholders.
As a TPM, you will be responsible for:
Support the enablement of clients around the principles and practices we apply to Platform Engineering, including product mindset, continuous delivery, SRE and agile. Providing a translation layer between traditional waterfall workstreams and agile delivery teams, applying the right methodology for the job at hand and setting all teams up for success
Establishing effective communications and collaboration between the client, our service delivery teams, delivery leadership, and account teams to ensure alignment and successful expectation management.
Translating technical delivery objectives into business outcomes, such as return on investment, and provide teams with a long-term vision and goals. Manage interfaces between competing projects and products -- telling the story of how they fit together while describing how risks could impact long term objectives and outcomes. Ensuring a cohesive story can be told, understood, measured and associated outcomes delivered.
Managing risk, budget, and dependencies, drives staffing demand, handles escalations and plan interventions to improve engagement health when necessary, and continuously measures appropriate metrics for engagement and overall program success
Facilitating key meetings between staff and clients including kick offs, stakeholder check ins, and off-boarding
Collaborating with sales and service delivery teams on strategy and approach for the program and account.
Desired Skills & Experience:
Fluency in French or German required
Program Management or similar experience, managing portfolios of technical projects
Clear communication skills around risks, progress, and next steps to all stakeholders
Able to facilitate key meetings and workshops, using tools and practices to help define the problem space of the client and potential outcomes with senior level stakeholders
Able to work independently to creatively solve ambiguous problems and manage scope and risk/opportunities and dependencies
Demonstrated ability to communicate the connection between business priorities and technical solutions/options
Ability to think at a larger scale (>$1M). Manages all aspects of cost, schedule, scope across multiple projects
5-10 year of prior program and portfolio management, and/or systems engineering or similar experience.
Ability to enable our clients in our practices in parallel to managing and executing the program.
Adaptive use of modern Agile and Lean practices to drive outcomes
Fluency in Cloud Native technologies and modern platform engineering practices including automation, Continuous Delivery, SRE and product mindset
Ability to act a servant leader within challenging and complex delivery environments
Experience in business development and pre-sales
Contributes to the Cloud Native or other technical community
