Principal Software Engineer (Embedded Systems) - Remote US
Join us as a Principal Software Engineer on our Platform Firmware Team to do the best work of your career and make a profound social impact.
What you’ll achieve
As a Principal Software Storage Engineer in Dell Infrastructure Solutions Product Group, you will contribute to the development of high performance, high availability storage enclosures and platforms used by multiple organizations and product teams. In this development role, you will be part of a global team that is responsible for design, development and integration of cutting-edge Platform Firmware Team. The team develops embedded firmware in a multi-threaded microprocessor environment for storage device topology configuration, operation and enclosure management.
Responsibilities include design, implementation, test and debug of embedded storage platform software/firmware, writing specifications (Functional, Design, Unit/Integration test), and participation in software design and code reviews.
Assignments require collaboration with other engineering and cross functional groups and will include support for new hardware platform development as well as upgrades, enhancements or fixes to existing products.
The candidate could also be responsible for overseeing the activities of vendors/external partners.
Candidate must demonstrate strong motivation, leadership, problem solving and communication skills, and a proven record of meeting aggressive deadlines.
Hands on coding intensive, unit testing, documentation.
Working with Hardware, Global Engineering and Validation teams.

Fluency in C programming
Proven embedded systems development experience
Strong knowledge/expertise in L2/L3 networking concepts, VLANs, IPv6, etc.
Solid understanding of hardware and software architectures and interactions
Strong commitment to unit testing and functional verification of Firmware components
Ability to ramp up quickly on SW/HW architectures, and work as a self-starter
Desirable Requirements Basic understanding of Agile Scrum software development methodology in a continuous development/integration environment
Bachelors/Masters degree in Computer Science or Computer/Electrical Engineering, 5-8 years professional experience
Strong interpersonal and oral communication/presentation skills
Familiarity with YANG models, NETCONF, and/or RESTCONF
Familiarity with IPMI and/or Redfish protocols
Device driver development experience in Unix/Linux/BSD & Embedded OS environments
Capable of managing and developing strong relationships with technology partners and product vendors
Interest in and ability to grow into a technical leadership or managerial role
