Dell Technologies’ Unstructured Storage Division is seeking talented Software Senior Escalation Engineer (Sustaining) to join In-Market Engineering (IME) EE team for its PowerScale (Isilon) storage product family.

The Dell EMC PowerScale Storage Division is in the business of transforming the way data is stored. At the forefront of the Big Data movement, our highly parallelized, distributed architecture has completely redefined the storage model. We enable our thousands of customers to work at a scale that wasn't previously possible by shipping a true clustered file system that can be expanded from a few dozen terabytes up to many petabytes. Our goal is to package game changing technology, un-paralleled scalability, and record-breaking performance into a product that is utterly simple to manage and continuously delights our customers. 

We are building a tight-knit IME Escalation Engineering team in Poland that is strategic part of PowerScale Engineering Team which is responsible for developing all critical feature work and fixes for OneFS Operating System (encompassing distributed file systems, kernel, protocols, networking, along with user space scale out components for replication, backup and archive).  This team has worldwide coverage and serves as the face of Isilon Engineering to other groups within Dell Technologies.

As a Senior Software Escalation Engineer in PowerScale In-Market Engineering team, you will contribute directly to software quality and improve customer experience as part of the team that bridges Support and Core Engineering.  Tech support background and strong software troubleshooting skills desired as well as proper English to be able to read, write and speak on daily basis. You need to describe problems, troubleshooting steps, and suggest the solutions to customers. You may also need to guide junior engineers in their daily work. Your problem statements are legendary. You can walk through unexplored territory, drawing the map as you go.

You will:

  • Able to collect data and do the analyzing the customer reported issues and make the root cause analysis independently.

  • Reproduce the customer’s issue by building the test environment according to the field configuration and scenario, raising the resource requirement in engineering organization to reach the goal.

  • Document the product improvement from the field cases.

  • Work with the development team for the final solution.

  • Mentor junior engineers in the team.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor or above degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent areas with at least 5 years of experience with technical products or services.

  • Basic C, C++ or Python coding.

  • Written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Problem solving skills, creative, highly motivated self-starter and learner.

  • Be a team player - we are a close-knit team and the ability to interact well with fellow team members is crucial.

Desirable Requirements

  • Familiarity with one or more of the following areas: one or more authentication protocols (LDAP, NIS, NTLM, Kerberos); networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, IPSEC); NAS Storage protocols (NFS, HDFS, SMB, S3, HTTP, FTP); platform (x86/x64, drivers, BIOS/UFEI, Hardware Management/IPMI).

  • Familiarity with one or more network analysis tools: Wireshark, tcpdump, etc. and with the FreeBSD or other POSIX/UNIX operating systems.
