Mechanical Principal Engineer

Mechanical Engineering leads and delivers the development of innovative and compliant mechanical design solutions, as well as cross-functional interfaces for desktop, portable and server computer systems and peripherals. Our team conducts the analysis, feasibility studies and testing of mechanical products, instruments, sub-assemblies and packaging for new and existing products – and then oversees the introduction of design changes to the manufacturing organizations.

What you’ll achieve
As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and evaluating concepts for chassis, board, and thermal feasibility. You will work with a global mechanical, electrical, and thermal engineering community on server and storage portfolio products.
You will:

  • Drive early concept feasibility to support and/or influence product requirements.

  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to drive customer-focused product solutions and influence portfolio strategy.

  • Use 3D CAD software to design sheet metal, plastic, die cast, and other components and assemblies.

  • Utilize robust design practices to design, prototype, and assess mechanical concept feasibility.

  • Interface with suppliers, manufacturing, quality, tooling engineering and other internal engineering disciplines to ensure the successful development and launch of new products.

Essential Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to understand and influence global teams
  • Ability to adapt to changing design requirements
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of appropriate manufacturing-driven design issues, technologies, vendor products and other market product offerings
  • Strong ability to conduct drive issue resolutions with electro-mechanical product development, as well as analyze options for critical design elements and features to determine optimum selection
  • Strong ability to read and understand technical data sheets and complex drawings, as well as 3D databases
  • Skills to perform CAD design and ability to analyze from FEA tools

Desirable Requirements

  • 8+ years of related experience in a professional role while having a Bachelor’s degree OR 6+ years of experience with a Master’s degree
