Staff Technical Program Manager - Security & Compliance - VMware, MAPBU 

The VMware Modern Application Platform Business Unit (MAPBU) is looking for a Staff Technical Program Manager to join us in building the Tanzu portfolio and transform how the world deploys and scales software. This role will work across the engineering teams to be the ‘glue’ that facilitates the flow of features to our customers while keeping our quality bar high and fostering continuous improvement.


This role is specifically focused on security and compliance for VMware Tanzu, one of VMware’s largest, most strategic, and fastest growing franchises. Tanzu customers must meet compliance requirements across a number of broad areas including U.S. Federal, Finance, Healthcare, Retail, etc. You will work with all Tanzu product teams to identify, prioritize, and deliver compliance functionality in Tanzu products. You will foster a culture of continuous improvement in our processes so that we can deliver compliance outcomes efficiently.

The programs you’ve led have been large, complex, impactful, and business critical. You build mechanisms that allow programs to understand their progress towards near and long term goals and illuminate paths to get there. You enable the organization to connect those goals to overall Business Unit and VMware Objectives, maintaining alignment between product strategy and the roadmap.You enable the organization to interpret, instill, and build in security and compliance standards such as FedRAMP, SOC 2, NIST, ISO 27001, HIPAA, SOX, etc., turning them into actionable engineering roadmaps. You will systematically reduce the toil of security and compliance audits, helping compliance become a reality for Tanzu customers.This role includes but is not limited to helping build systems and feedback loops around compliance programs, providing feedback and coaching to Engineering and Product teams and leadership across the Business Unit, and supporting a culture of continuous improvement and learning within Tanzu R&D. As the program landscape changes, this role will also include ensuring those transitions are healthy and resilient.

Desired Skills / Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge and practical experience with Technical Program Management across complex, multi-program R&D organizations that are delivering product features and managing dependencies between other programs and products within a large portfolio.

  • Extensive knowledge and practical experience with agile software delivery methodologies, lean governance, and portfolio management for SaaS, on-prem, or hybrid software delivery models.

  • Proven ability to define, establish, and maintain a consistent, traceable decision-making process across a wide landscape of stakeholders that includes VP-level participants. 

  • Experience establishing organizational and software delivery metrics, building reports and dashboards detailing health including customer success, project execution, and program health. Experience bringing together heterogeneous data sources and team / program working styles into one cohesive cross-organizational view of portfolio health is a plus. 

  • Experience as the interface between Go-To-Market teams and R&D, planning and coordinating efforts to support aligned business planning, tracking, and communication of product delivery expectations with potential and existing customers.

  • Direct experience leading compliance initiatives and running audits for standards such as FedRAMP, SOC 2, NIST, ISO 27001, HIPAA, SOX is a plus.

  • BA/BS in Computer Science or related fields is a plus.

For positions located in Colorado: The base salary range is Min $95000 - $162000.
