Senior Software Engineer

The Software Engineering team delivers next-generation application enhancements and new products for a changing world. What you’ll achieve
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for developing sophisticated systems and software, working with other technologists to build software solutions. You will utilize a range of applicable technologies (e.g., programming languages, compilers, assemblers, debuggers, other tools) for products used in local, networked, storage enhancements and/or new systems. Modify existing software products to add new functions, adapt to new hardware, improve performance or enhance product usability. Participate in product development in all stages from planning, design, development, testing and documentation. Assist with the implementation of new or additional storage technologies to improve infrastructure service, both locally and remotely.


You will:

  • Contribute to the design and architecture of new or re-engineered software/storage environments

  • Prepare written software/storage specifications for sophisticated products from architectural diagrams and documents

  • Build and review design, functional, technical and/or user documentation, as needed

  • Develop, review and implement test strategies for software products and systems

  • Design and build solutions to complex technical problems on PowerScale that deal with high scale, concurrency, and performance to enhance our customer’s ability to access and manage multiple petabytes of data.

  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills across one or more teams to create a detailed design, and provide a high-quality implementation.

  • Contribute to the culture of quality throughout our broader engineering organization.

  • Share experiences and skills to aid team members in enhancing their professional skills and career.

  • Possess an aptitude in exploring new technologies and understanding how to apply them to new product releases and in customer facing support scenarios.

Essential Requirements

  • Typically requires 3-5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent experience

  • Full use and application of standard principles, theories, concepts, and techniques based on an established body of knowledge

  • Proficient programming skill in C/ C++ in a distributed systems environment

  • Able to code/debug moderately complex programs using either written or verbal design specifications

  • Good understanding of hardware and software interactions

  • Knowledge of storage networking architectures and application

  • Knowledge of storage/ network protocols and connectivity

  • An understanding of the UNIX operating environment such as system configuration, memory management, system calls, multiplexed I/O, and concurrency models.

  • Experience in one or more unit test frameworks


Desirable Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science or related field.

  • Experience with network file systems or object protocols such as SMB, NFS, or S3 interfaces in shippable software/services.

  • Knowledge of authentication, identity management and authorization concepts
