About Me:

I am a software engineer from Kerala, India, and I’ve been with Dell for three and a half years. I'm passionate about technology and am always eager to learn and experiment. Outside of work, I enjoy singing, watching movies, playing video games and exploring new destinations. My life revolves around coding, creativity and the thrill of discovery.

What International Day of Persons with Disabilities Means to Me and How I Celebrate It:

International Day of Persons with Disabilities holds great significance for me, as it provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the challenges and achievements of people with disabilities. It's a day to celebrate our diversity, abilities and contributions to society. Being a core team member of True Ability Employee Resource Group (ERG) India, I celebrate by helping to organize events and activities at Dell such as panel discussions, workshops, awareness campaigns and talent shows. These activities educate our colleagues and foster an inclusive environment.

How I Advocate for Myself and Others with Disabilities in My Community:

Advocacy for people with disabilities is crucial to promote inclusion and accessibility. I advocate by:

1) Sharing My Story: Sharing my personal experiences and challenges with colleagues, and in the broader community, to promote understanding and empathy.

2) Mentoring: Providing mentorship and guidance to other individuals with disabilities, especially those just starting their careers.

3) Participating in True Ability ERG: Actively contributing to initiatives and programs within the ERG to create a more inclusive workplace.

Challenging Misconceptions About Disability:

There are several misconceptions and stereotypes about disabilities. It's important to challenge them. Some common ones include:

Inferiority: The misconception that people with disabilities are less capable or intelligent.

Dependency: The stereotype that individuals with disabilities are solely dependent on others for their daily needs.

Pity: The assumption that people with disabilities should be pitied rather than respected for their abilities.

Homogeneity: Treating all disabilities as the same when they are incredibly diverse.

I aim to challenge these stereotypes by showcasing my abilities, educating others about the unique challenges each person with a disability faces, and emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and equal opportunities.

My Experience in Dell’s True Ability ERG:

My experience in Dell's True Ability ERG has been extremely positive. The ERG provides a supportive community where I can connect with colleagues who understand the challenges I face. My role in the True Ability ERG India provides me an opportunity to give back to the community by advocating for inclusivity, providing support and mentorship, collaborating with community organizations, and serving as a positive example for others. Through these efforts, I can contribute to a more inclusive and supportive environment for individuals with disabilities both within Dell and in the broader community. Dell's commitment to diversity and inclusion is evident through the ERG's activities, making it a welcoming and empowering environment.
