Senior Principal Systems Development Engineer

Dell Technologies is looking for a Senior Principal Engineer to support Client Performance Engineering.  This individual will be responsible for applied research and advanced engineering in the development of a hardware and software to optimize client (notebooks, desktops, workstations) performance.  This individual will assist with performance related development work at Dell’s Taiwan Development Center.  The work will involve frequent interaction with local PC industry ODMs. The ideal candidate must be experienced in the analysis of PC systems to optimize performance.

What you’ll achieve

This is an engineering position on a highly energized team within Dell’s Client Product Group.  The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering the areas of focus will include low level tuning of CPU/GPU, software stack optimizations, subsystem analysis, and benchmark studies. Understanding of design, definition, and implementation of complex system requirements for customers, as well as analyzing existing systems to optimize performance is important.

You will:

• Work closely with internal teams (Development Managers, Software/Hardware and marketing team, etc.) to delivery qualified performance result and external teams (ODMs) to review their performance tuning result

• Optimize total system performance through isolation and alleviation of bottlenecks

• Be an all-round system performance engineer spanning PCs/workstations thermal, hardware, software and firmware areas

• Perform Design of Experiments and document analysis and recommendations based on your findings

Essential Requirements

• Bachelor or Master in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or equivalent desire with 8+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience

• Understanding of PC market and key applications areas including such as workstation software. Understanding of PC architectures and technologies for desktops and notebooks, as well as associated peripherals and software

• Demonstrated experience with performance engineering, benchmarking, and sub-system optimizations

• Effectively use their understanding of the subject matter in order to have a direct impact on system-level performance. 

• Experience in system integration including building PCs/workstations, installing operating systems, drivers, application software and configuring the system for optimum performance

Desirable Requirements

• Broad PC industry knowledge.

• Demonstrated understanding of thermal/performance tuning
