Senior Research Developer

We are the hardware group within OCTO (Office of the CTO), located in Ottawa, Canada, and are seeking a highly skilled research developer/consultant to join our team.

What you’ll achieve

In alignment with Dell’s modern client product research group, and as a Senior Research Developer in OCTO, you will be responsible for conducting technical studies and lab proof-of-concepts (PoCs) for various CTO projects and research topics.

You will:

  • Conduct technical studies and lab PoCs

  • Design and implement innovative solutions for connectivity in diverse environments

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including research, product development, and supply chain

  • Contribute to the development of intellectual property and research publications

  • Develop and maintain technical reports, documentation, and presentations

Essential Requirements

  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, or a related field, with 3+ years of R&D experience in network communication systems or related areas

  • Strong knowledge of communication protocols and networking technologies (Ethernet, TCP/IP, QoS, network route optimization, Wi-Fi, 5G), and experience in system modeling, link-budget analysis, and solving complex optimization problems

  • Proficient in software development and integration in Linux, VM, Docker, Kubernetes using Python, JSON; experience with lab PoCs and prototyping

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to research and work independently and in a team environment

  • Strong knowledge of computer networking, communication protocols, and distributed systems

Desirable Requirements

  • Familiarity with cloud computing, edge computing, IoT technologies, and experience with software-defined networking (SDN), network function virtualization (NFV), and network simulation tools (e.g., ns-3, OMNeT++, NetSim)

  • Strong foundation in AI/ML with experience in ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch), AI/ML optimization methods (e.g., hyperparameter tuning, neural architecture search), and applications in networking and distributed systems
