What is your current role/ internship?

My official role is a Business Intelligence Intern. However, I personally identify myself as just a backend programmer, focusing on Python and Structured Query Language. Also, I am usually one of the guys on the team they go to for IT-related problems.

How did you find your internship at Dell Technologies and why did you decide to join the company?

From a young age, I worked at many places. Eventually, I started working for an agency that typically assigned one-day jobs and had the chance to learn a lot, both good and bad. This experience allowed me to become extremely flexible and adaptable. I mean, when you’re working somewhere for one day and that’s it, you have to get the hang of it quickly or your reputation could be damaged which could hinder your future job hunting at the agency. The bad thing I learned was that not every employer cares about you. That’s when I decided that I would never work for a company that does not care about its employees. Therefore, when I was looking for my first internship to gain experience and build my network, I kept this in mind.

So how did I know if the employer was good? It was quite simple; I just had to look them up on Glassdoor.com. I was looking for a company based in Slovakia, which was IT oriented and had an open role. Dell Technologies immediately stood out for its unique Code of Conduct. I instantly became interested in it and thought to myself, “if even half of what’s written here is true, I got to work there!”

What are you currently working on, any projects?

Since joining the company, I was tasked with many projects, most of which included programming in Python and improving our code base and backend side. From my first day, I always had the privilege of choosing what I wanted to work on and never once was forced to do work I did not like. My most recent project consisted of reworking part of our very old codebase to a more reliable and scalable code.

What do you like the most about interning for Dell Technologies?

Sometimes people tell you that when you join a big corporation, you will become just a number. Since I joined Dell Technologies, I’ve never had that feeling. We are just people working towards a common goal and I’ve never felt like someone is higher or lower than me regardless of their role. We are working together, scaling mountains together, regardless of how big or small they are. That’s why their Winning Together culture is the top thing I love about my internship. Not only do you work faster together, but you are also gaining immeasurable experience from experts in that field. Also, as the cherry on top, you get to do all this while expanding your network.

What have you learned so far that will be helpful in your next steps and career path?

I gained deeper insight into the Python programming language and programming practices. In addition, I had the opportunity to improve my SQL skills drastically. I learned to work on a Windows server and had the opportunity to practice bash and much more. Personally, I value the soft skills that I gained along the way; creativity, troubleshooting skills, thinking outside the box, teamwork, and work-life balance. Whatever the future holds for me, I think I am more than ready.

What would you say to encourage others interested in interning with Dell Technologies?

Personally, this internship is a life-changing experience that fulfills me. So, just go for it! You will have a hands-on experience working in a really friendly environment full of wonderful people, and you’ll never feel out of place. If you decide to join us, I would like to give you a little advice: If there is an event happening, attend it, you will not be disappointed. Dell Technologies is the place where you can grow, not just professionally but personally as well.

Outside of work, what else do you enjoy?

I mean it may sound weird, but I really enjoy programming even outside work. It is a creative hobby limited only by your imagination. Other than that, I love mountain biking, canoeing our local rivers and playing computer games.
