Can you give me a quick overview of when you were diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis – age, when you first started noticing signs/symptoms, etc.?

Cystic Fibrosis is a multi-organ disease which causes reduced lung function and difficulty eating. I was 6 years old when I first started showing symptoms, but was not officially diagnosed until I was 23. Today I rely on feeding pump as my primary source of nutrition.

Please share a little bit about your role at Dell Technologies and what that entails.

I am a Technical Sales Representative for the UK Public Sector – Central Government and Defense. I solve customer challenges by being a trusted advisor and leveraging the full portfolio of Dell products. You can learn more about my role below.

How has CF impacted your career (if it has)?

CF has impacted my career in my ability to progress to where I’d like to be due to physical impacts. Dell Technologies, as a company and my managers, have always been supportive and we have conversations as to what career development looks like for me.

How do you find #LifeAtDell? Are you a member of any ERGs? If so, which ones?

The UK Public Sales team is like a family to me. We have a family ethos and they have been so supportive of me. I am a member of the True Ability ERG. It’s given me a platform to help raise awareness of hidden illnesses as there is definitely a gap in the workplace. I hope that people on the outside can learn to be passionate about the cause too.

Has working from home vs. in the office with CF impacted you? Is there a setup that you have found works best?

The ability to work from home allows me to look after myself and keep infections to a minimum. I worked the first 18 months in the office and then realized that it was imperative for me to work from home in order to continue doing my job successfully. This article includes more information about what working from home means to me.

What is your favourite part about working for Dell?

The people but also the diversity and inclusion policy. It enables me to not worry about perception and focus on my job. It’s also allowed me to speak about CF and help raise awareness within Dell.

Is there a piece of advice that you would share for someone who may have a chronic illness or hidden disability who may be afraid to apply for their dream job or a job at all?

It can be daunting but I’d encourage you to go for it and apply for the job at Dell. You won’t know what happens until you try.
