Hello, my name is Brady Ligon, and I am a Solutions Architect at Dell Technologies! I am located at our headquarters in Round Rock, TX, where I started my career as part of the Dell Technologies Presales Academy in August 2024. I have been in this role for over a year now, but before that I attended Texas A&M University. My time there was kept busy between late nights coding for my Computer Engineering degree and playing the trumpet on Kyle Field as a member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band and the Corps of Cadets. Leading up to my graduation in May 2024, I wanted to find a career that could blend the technical and soft skills I had been developing in college. In the fall of 2022, I found the Dell Technologies Presales Academy (DTPA) internship program and had the opportunity to be part of the Summer 2023 class. It felt like I had hit the jackpot, as the presales solutions architect role perfectly blends the demands of technical and soft skills to solve real-world customer challenges in their IT infrastructure.
Dell Technologies Presales Academy
I began my time at Dell with the Dell Technologies Presales Academy, and it couldn't have been a better place to start! It is a three-month onboarding program that teaches you the ropes for the Solutions Architect role. From technical knowledge on data center fundamentals to sales acumen skills, all while being supported by people who previously went through the academy, the DTPA provides a unique opportunity for new graduates to accelerate the start of their career in the IT industry!
Methodology of Presales
The structure by which presales at Dell execute their role is the DADD (Discover, Analyze, Design, Defend) process. I love this structure because, as it was explained to me, it's like being a doctor for IT infrastructure. Just as a doctor would ask about your symptoms, run some tests, and then diagnose your illness based on their findings, we get to follow the same principles to solve our customers' IT challenges!
Always Something to Learn
The role entails being a technical resource in the sales process of data center infrastructure, allowing you to have many conversations with IT teams about how they are adapting their technology to better support their business outcomes. Additionally, modern AI depends on powerful data center hardware, putting you right at the front lines of where that innovation is happening. In this rapidly changing industry, this provides a great opportunity to always have something new to learn. It keeps the job from ever going stale and gives me the ability to always have something to work toward as I strive to better my customer conversations.
People and Culture
I'd proudly say that the culture in the presales organization is the best in the company, hands down! Everyone in this organization is collaborative and wants to help each other succeed. There is also a great emphasis on mentorship, and you will gain quite a few mentors and mentees during your time in presales. Because of this uplifting culture, your mentorships don't just help you with your professional goals, but with all facets of your life. I am able to have a mentor for my technical development, my career development, and my personal development, along with being a mentor in those same areas. This allows me to effectively improve myself and others at a rate that wouldn't be possible without the culture in the presales organization.
