Hey! I’m Cruz Lopez, a Software Engineer at Dell Technologies. I was born and raised in Austin, Texas and studied Computer Information Systems at the University of Houston. I interned at Dell Technologies in Summer 2022 and officially joined full-time in August 2023.
When I’m not at my desk, you’ll find me traveling or diving into personal projects. I love exploring new places—it’s a great way to experience different cultures, try new foods, and see the world from a fresh perspective. I’m especially fascinated by emerging technologies, with a strong focus on AI. I’m always diving into the latest developments and enjoy building side projects that let me experiment, learn, and stay ahead of the curve. It’s both a creative outlet and a way to continuously grow as an engineer.
Can you share your journey and experience at Dell Technologies?
My journey with Dell Technologies began in the summer of 2022 as a Software Engineer Intern. I was part of the IPE Solutions Engineering – IT Infrastructure team, where I built dashboards and reports using Power BI for our stakeholders.
After completing my internship, I joined Dell Technologies full-time through the IT Development Program (ITDP) following my graduation.
I’m currently in my second year at Dell Technologies, working as a Software Engineer on the Core Transactional Systems (CTS) team within the Dell IT organization. My focus is on developing generative and agentic AI applications. My team and I have built a generative AI application for Enterprise Finance Systems (EFS) and are currently working on an agentic AI solution for our supply chain team.
I am passionate about technology, and Dell is at the cutting edge of innovation. Here, I get to grow my skills, experiment with new ideas, and see my work make a real impact. Plus, leaders genuinely support you and listen to your ideas, something I truly value.

I first discovered my passion for coding during a Python course at Austin Community College. There was something inspiring about turning ideas into functional scripts. That initial spark transformed into real motivation during my internship at Dell, where I saw how the dashboards and reports I built directly influenced stakeholders' decisions. Knowing that my work could produce real results was incredibly rewarding. Today, I've channeled that same excitement into AI, where I tackle complex problems.
How do you use AI in your role / how does AI contribute to your success?
I use AI every day in two ways. Personally, I ask quick questions to a large language model (LLM) like ChatGPT to brainstorm ideas or troubleshoot code. Professionally, I build AI-powered apps that reduce tedious manual work for our team. In short, AI supercharges my productivity and amplifies the impact of everything I create.
The Dell IT organization offers a great opportunity for career growth and development. New hires can join the three-year IT Development Program (ITDP), rotating across teams to receive hands-on training and practical experience, developing new technical and soft skills. After completing ITDP, top performers can transition into the IT Master’s Program, where they can deepen their leadership skills, broaden their expertise, and take on larger responsibilities within Dell IT. Beyond that, there is always room to join Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), earn certifications, and find a mentor to keep your skills sharp and your career moving forward.
