I’m Steve, also known as The Storage Alchemist, and I’ve been immersed in the storage industry for over 20 years. My journey began at Enterprise Storage Group, where I carved out my niche as an analyst focused on data and cyber resilience. Over the past decade, I’ve brought high energy and high impact to both startups and Fortune 50 companies, driving marketing, strategy, and business development that delivers results. I’ve also had the privilege of helping companies navigate successful acquisitions. Along the way, I’ve built a reputation as a passionate industry speaker, professional podcaster, and blogger. You can find my latest insights and musings at thestoragealchemist.com—where I explore the evolving world of storage, resilience, and innovation. In my current role at Dell, I am a Senior Data / Cyber Consultant serving ISG Product Marketing for the Dell Technologies data resilience portfolio.
What inspired you to join Dell, and how has your journey here shaped your skills and career in ways you didn’t expect?
I wanted to be challenged and continue to help the technology world better understand cybersecurity and what is necessary to make the world a safer place. At Dell I’ve gotten to meet a class of customers across an extremely broad range of industries to talk to about cybersecurity and based on this, I have learned a great deal.
What’s one skill or strength you’ve brought to Dell that you feel has made a real impact on your team or the company?
I think that the biggest strength I have brough to Dell from a marketing perspective is experience. Having worked in IT technology for over 20 years, I have a pretty good understanding on what customers need from a marketing perspective – truth in marketing and the use of real capabilities with real words.
What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned while working at Dell, and how has it influenced the way you approach your work?
Your internal partnerships are extremely important. Especially in the work world we live in with colleagues being in remote states. The need to be able to work together to reach a common goal at the speed of technology is critical to a company’s success.
If your Dell experience were a recipe, what would the key ingredients be?
Good management, patience, honest marketing, solid internal partnerships, and adaptability.
If you could give advice to someone looking to build a career at Dell, based on your own experience, what would it be?
Be open. Things won’t be what you expect and things change quickly and be prepared to try new things and be patient.
