The Marketing Development Program is designed to attract and retain top talent from Colleges, Universities, Community Colleges, and Vocational Programs, as well as Diversity & Inclusion conferences to build the marketing talent pipeline. Program members experience four 6-month rotations with different marketing teams, gaining valuable hands-on experience and exposure to various marketing disciplines. Members also get access to exclusive trainings, career coaching, executive exposure, and networking opportunities to help accelerate their success at Dell.
Currently working in Competitive Intelligence Marketing, Katelyn reflects on her first year as a member of the Marketing Development Program:
How did you start your career with Dell Technologies, and how did you get involved with the Marketing Development Program?
My career started in a very unexpected way. When looking for an internship during my junior year at Purdue, I stumbled upon an Instagram post about a Cosmopolitan shadowing program that was sponsored by Dell XPS. In the post’s description, there was also a link to Dell's Marketing Internship Program. I applied to both, and eventually interviewed with Dell Technologies. Shortly after, I received my offer for the internship program! After completing the program, I received an offer for a spot in the Marketing Development Program.
What were your first thoughts about the program? Did you have any doubts?
My first thoughts were that it was such a unique opportunity. I've always felt a bit worried about my future because I never knew exactly what I wanted to pursue. However, this program allows me the opportunity to explore different areas while getting support from incredible program managers and team members.
Please share a bit about your current role and any past roles within the program.

My first role in the rotational program is as an Analyst on the Competitive Intelligence Marketing team within DTBU Marketing. I work cross-functionally with the marketing team, and the Edge and Telecommunications workgroup to create competitive, customer-facing assets. Being on this team for my first rotation has allowed me to gain knowledge of our products and solutions and learn more about the technology industry.
How do you feel about temporarily joining a team as a member of the program?
It's both challenging and exciting. It can be challenging to join a team, understand their culture, learn the role, produce deliverables, and make connections in a 6-month time span. However, I think it's a challenge that is 100% worth it in the end. Each of these 6-month periods shape us into well-rounded, ambitious professionals.

What surprised you most about the program and your time with Dell Technologies?
I've been surprised with how much I’m able to learn and grow in only 6 months. In this first rotation, I've grown in many ways, both professionally and personally. I can't imagine how well-rounded a marketer and person I'll be by the time I graduate the program.
What is your favorite part about being a member of the Marketing Development Program?
My favorite part of being a member of the MDP program is the community. Not only do you gain such a strong professional network of MDP alumni, program managers, directors, and your cohort, but you also gain real friends. It's nice to have a group of people who are in the same boat as you.

How has the program contributed to your success at Dell Technologies?
I've developed a really strong network already! I've learned so much from my role but also from the skill development sessions planned and executed by the MDP program managers. I truly think it's an incredible experience and a great way to start my career after graduation.
