Kinsey Bohrer: Building IT Solutions at Dell Technologies

Kinsey Bohrer | Associate Systems Engineer | United States

My name is Kinsey Bohrer, and I’m an Associate Systems Engineer within the Dell Technologies Presales Academy organization, based at the HQ in Round Rock, Texas. I graduated college in 2024 from the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Business.

My path to technology wasn’t linear. I always loved problem solving, people, and storytelling, and I discovered the role of sales engineering through the Society of Sales Engineers (SSE) chapter at my university. This organization helped me compete nationally in sales engineering competitions against other college students, gain leadership experience within my student organization, and work with real customers during internships that showed me how much I love translating complex technology into simple, meaningful business outcomes. That eventually led me to Dell’s Presales Academy program, which felt like the perfect place to start my career.

As a systems engineer, you’re in charge of designing the future of a customer’s IT environment, and you get to shape how modern, resilient, and scalable it becomes.

Kinsey B.

Associate Systems Engineer

What inspired you to pursue a career in systems engineering?

I wanted a career that blended technical depth with human connection. Systems engineering at Dell gives me the best of both worlds. One moment I’m deep in infrastructure sizing design, and the next I’m listening to a customer describe what they want their business outcomes to be. I also love the pace of innovation in this space. Information storage, hypervisor options, AI, and automation are constantly evolving, and I knew I wanted to be somewhere where I could keep learning, growing, stay curious, and never get bored. Dell gave me that opportunity immediately.

How did your education or previous experiences prepare you for this role? Can you describe the interview process?

During my final summer of college, I interned at Dell as a Presales Intern, where I learned data center fundamentals, the DADD process (Discover, Analyze, Design, Defend), how to support customers, build technical solutions, and earn trust. Those experiences helped me feel confident during Dell’s interview process, especially the role-play and discovery components. The interview process was conversational, encouraging, and focused on my background and future potential. Dell cared just as much about my enthusiasm, willingness to learn, coachability, and curiosity as my technical background.

What’s one thing about your job that people might not expect?

People think that systems engineering is a “behind the scenes” role, which could not be more far from the truth. It’s incredibly interactive and personable. I spend just as much time learning about customer goals, process pain points, and business outcomes as I do learning about architecture and technology. People also don’t realize how creative the job can be. You’re in charge of designing the future of a customer’s IT environment, and you get to shape how modern, resilient, and scalable it becomes.

What’s your favorite part of being a systems engineer?

The relationships. I love being the trusted technical advisor for both sales teams and customers. There’s something special about seeing a customer go from overwhelmed to confident because you created a solution to their challenges. And internally, the teamwork at Dell is unmatched. I’ve never worked somewhere where people genuinely want you to win and are willing to invest time in your growth.

If you could work on any dream project, what would it be?

My dream project would be helping a customer build a fully modernized, automated, AI-ready infrastructure, starting at the storage layer with platforms like PowerStore, PowerScale, PowerEdge XE Servers, and scaling up to the software stack and beyond. I’d love to be involved in a long-term transformation where we get to see the before-and-after impact- efficiency gains, cost savings, resiliency improvements, and how it empowers people inside the organization.

What’s one thing you wish you knew before starting your first engineering job?

That you don’t need to know everything on day one. In fact, nobody expects you to. What matters most is being curious, humble, working hard, wanting to win, asking thoughtful questions, and showing customers and teammates that you genuinely care about solving problems. The technical expertise will come faster than you think, but the willingness to learn, collaborate, and adapt is what really sets you up for success. The Dell Technologies Presales Academy (DTPA) lays the perfect foundation, then you take that knowledge to the next level by applying it to real IT transformation opportunities.
