Recently, I’ve been reflecting on my journey for the past 12 months. Specifically, when Australia went into its second lockdown within two years. It was a difficult time with the heavy restrictions in place and we couldn’t see our families because the borders were closed. Having not seeing my family in over two years and desperately missing them, we thought the only way we’ll see them again was if we moved. So, we packed up a couple of suitcases, moved the rest of our things into storage, rented out our house and applied for a permit to leave Australia. Within six weeks of making this crazy decision, we were on the plane to Prague just in time for my seven-year old’s first day of school (no more home schooling, yay!).
Honestly, I originally thought I’d have to resign from my job due to the drastic time change. It was going to be a challenge working with my team on Australia time, while I resided in Europe. Trust me, my husband did this and it was no fun at all. However, my leaders had a different plan. I still remember the happiness and excitement I had when they offered me the IT Recruiter position with Dell Bratislava. I was so excited about the upcoming opportunity to challenge myself with a different job market and to work with new teams. It truly felt like starting a new job!
Being in Europe not only gave me the opportunity to try a new work environment, but also allowed me to be closer to family and travel more. Unlike in Australia, we experienced all four seasons again. I even learned how to ski! We reconnected with our traditions and most importantly, our son learned more about our roots, culture, and history.
After 12 months in Europe, the borders opened, and the restrictions were lifted. I was finally able to go back to Dell Australia! I am super grateful to work for a company that offers and encourages international relocation, growth in numerous areas, and flexibility.
Thank you to the team at Dell Bratislava, I learned so much from you all and made lifelong friends. I am lucky to have worked with many amazing colleagues who were always there to share their knowledge and guidance. And of course, without the huge support from my Talent Acquisition leaders, this would not have been possible.
Now I’m back with the APJ team and can already see the new opportunities for me to grow. I am so proud to be part of an organization with amazing leaders, a strong culture, and endless opportunities!
