What motivated you to start your career at Dell Technologies?
I was attracted to Dell because of its commitment to innovation and its strong reputation for empowering employees. I admired the company's focus on customer satisfaction and its collaborative culture. The chance to grow and develop in such a dynamic organization was a significant motivator for me. However, my biggest inspiration came from my mom, Cindy Holland-Willis, who dedicated 22 years to Dell. Watching her thrive and build a fulfilling career here showed me the profound impact the company can have, and her loyalty to Dell remained unwavering until she passed away last year.
What skills/mindsets help someone be successful in Sales?
Success in sales requires strong communication skills, resilience, and a deep understanding of customer needs. An empathetic mindset helps build relationships, while adaptability is crucial in a rapidly changing tech landscape. Additionally, being proactive and having a continuous learning attitude can set you apart.
What are the challenges of your role?
One of the main challenges is balancing the diverse needs of new hires with the overarching goals of the sales team. It can be difficult to ensure everyone receives personalized attention while also maintaining a structured onboarding process. Additionally, keeping up with ever-evolving technology and market trends is a constant challenge.
First, be curious and willing to learn. Take advantage of the training resources available and seek mentorship from experienced colleagues. Networking within the company can open doors. Lastly, stay adaptable. The tech landscape is constantly changing, and being able to pivot will serve you well.

What technology do you use daily? How are you using AI at work and at home?
I use a variety of tools daily, including Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software for tracking sales performance and collaboration platforms for team communication. AI plays a role in analyzing customer data and providing insights to tailor our sales approach.
At home, I use AI-powered tools, such as a Smart Home Devices like AI-enabled thermostats that learn our preferences and optimize energy use. Here are more examples:
- Virtual Assistants: Devices like Amazon Echo (Alexa) and Google Nest (Google Assistant) help with tasks like setting reminders, playing music or controlling smart home devices.
- Personal Finance/Banking apps: I use AI to track spending habits and provide budgeting advice.
- Health/Fitness apps: Fitbit uses AI to analyze activity data and suggest personalized fitness plans.
- Streaming Services: Platforms such as Netflix, Hulu and Spotify use AI algorithms to recommend movies, shows and music based on your viewing or listening history.
- Smart TVs: All our smart TVs have built-in AI features that optimize picture, sound settings, and provide content recommendations based on your preferences.
The list truly does go on…
How do you see AI transforming the role of a Sales Representative?
AI will significantly enhance the role of sales rep by automating routine tasks, providing deeper insights into customer behavior, and personalizing interactions. This allows sales reps to focus more on building relationships and closing deals, rather than getting bogged down in administrative work.
What does a day in your life look like as a Sales Coach?
A day in the life of a new hire onboarding sales coach is dynamic and engaging. It typically starts with preparing the classroom for the day’s sessions, ensuring all materials and resources are ready for the new hires. Once the class begins, I introduce the team to foundational selling skills and product knowledge through interactive activities and discussions. Throughout the day, I lead various training sessions, including role-playing exercises and hotseats, where participants practice real-life scenarios to build their confidence. I also incorporate knowledge checks to reinforce learning and ensure everyone is on the same page.
In between training sessions, I take time to review individual performance metrics, identifying strengths and areas for improvement. This data informs my one-on-one coaching sessions, where I provide personalized feedback and strategies tailored to each new hire's unique needs.
I often facilitate group workshops that encourage collaboration and peer learning, fostering a supportive environment where new hires can share insights and challenges. My goal is to ensure they feel confident and equipped for their sales roles by the end of their onboarding journey. Each day is focused on creating an engaging learning experience that empowers new hires to succeed in their sales careers.
What are your favorite activities for keeping a "work-life" balance?
I prioritize my physical health by working out, which helps clear my mind and recharge my energy. I also enjoy meditation, melting into the couch and spending quality time with my family, fur babies and friends. Setting clear boundaries for work hours is essential to maintaining that balance.
What is a food or beverage you cannot get through the work day without?
I can't get through the work day without a stick of gum and some good ol’ ice cold H2O and maybe the occasional energy drink!
