Paramita's Evolving Path from Intern to Impact

How It All Began - Charting an Unconventional Path to Dell Technologies

My journey with Dell Technologies began in 2019, but my path leading up to it was anything but conventional. I started my career in engineering after completing my undergraduate degree in Electronics and Communication. For four years, I worked at Ericsson as a telecom engineer—a time that taught me the fundamentals of technology, discipline, and the importance of systems thinking. However, I knew I wanted to do more—to understand the "why" behind business decisions, not just the "how" of engineering.

That desire led me to pursue a Master’s in Business Administration at the National University of Singapore. During my MBA, I got my first taste of Dell Technologies, and it left a lasting impression. I had the opportunity to intern with two different teams in finance, each offering a unique perspective on the company’s inner workings.

For any recent graduate looking for a place to grow, challenge yourself, and make a meaningful impact — Dell Technologies is that place. It’s where your skills are valued, your development is prioritized, and your potential truly has space to shine.

Discovering My Passion at the Crossroads of Data and Strategy

My first internship was with the Segment Finance team, where I led an attach rate optimization project for monitors in the Asia Pacific Japan-Consumer and Small Business segment. I was tasked with developing a comprehensive short and long-term marketing strategy to grow the monitors category—and I loved every second of it. I even built dashboards to track and visualize KPIs, which gave me a deep sense of ownership and impact.

My second internship was with the Global Risk Assurance and Transformation team, where I worked on Dell’s Risk Intelligence Analytics. I built a global data repository which was then used to train machine learning models to detect and classify risky entities. It was technical, but it was also deeply strategic. That’s when I realized how much I enjoyed marrying data with business!

Toward the end of my MBA, I did a third internship—this time in Sales Analytics as a data science intern. I focused on customer segmentation and sales funnel reporting. This experience got me deeply interested in the field of data science and machine learning. After the internship, I joined a startup as a Business Analytics Manager, where I continued to sharpen my skills in data analytics.

One of the most memorable aspects of my internship journey was the culture of healthy competition and collaboration. Preparing for our final project presentations was another highlight. We had to not only deliver our analysis but also demonstrate how our work aligned with Dell’s broader business goals. I was constantly surrounded by inspiring mentors and leaders who were willing to invest time in us, whether through one-on-one check-ins or team knowledge-sharing sessions. It was clear that Dell didn’t just see us as interns—they saw us as future contributors. Looking back, it’s been a journey of growth, exploration, and rediscovery, and I’m grateful that Dell has supported me every step of the way.

From Intern to Data Scientist to Strategic Leader — A Journey That Came Full Circle

A year later, I got a call from Dell HR—a position had opened in one of the teams I had interned with. It felt like coming full circle! I joined Dell as a Data Scientist, supporting the Client Solutions Group’s Go-To-Market teams. I led several impactful projects, from deploying a customer acquisition dashboard to designing a customer survival model and building a product recommendation engine. It was challenging, fast paced, and incredibly fulfilling.

After three years as a data scientist, I found myself drawn to pricing and decision-making at a more strategic level. This led to my transition to my current role as a Global Special Pricing Advisor in Finance. My core responsibility in this role is to analyze service deals from both a profitability and strategic value standpoint. I work closely with the sales team to evaluate and approve pricing requests, ensuring that each deal not only meets customer needs but also aligns with Dell’s broader business objectives. It’s a balancing act that requires sound financial judgment, clear communication, and the ability to see both the big picture and the finer details.

What I really enjoy about this role is the pace and variety. Every day is different — whether it’s reviewing a large multi-country deal, collaborating with sales to refine a pricing strategy, or troubleshooting urgent requests from the field. The dynamic nature of the work means I’m constantly learning and adapting, which keeps me motivated and challenged. Another exciting factor is the level of ownership and impact I have. My recommendations influence real business outcomes, and I get to partner with cross-functional teams to drive value. It’s a role that blends finance, strategy, and collaboration — and that’s exactly the kind of work I find fulfilling.

What Helped Me Grow - Staying Curious, Connected, and Ready to Learn

If I had to distill my journey at Dell Technologies into a few key takeaways, there are a few stand-out insights: staying curious and informed about business trends, continuously upskilling, and actively building internal networks. Dell thrives on innovation and agility, and to keep pace, I’ve learned the value of being proactive, adaptable, and open to connecting with people beyond my immediate team.

One of the most impactful experiences in my full-time role was participating in Dell’s Graduate Development Program. Having previously interned at Dell; I thought I had a good grasp of the company — but the program elevated my integration to a whole new level. Through brown bag sessions, knowledge-sharing forums, and meet-and-greets with senior leaders across the organization, I gained a comprehensive understanding of Dell’s ecosystem and culture. It wasn’t just about learning systems or business functions; it was about seeing how everything connects, how collaboration happens, and how to navigate the organization with confidence.

Leadership Through Giving Back - Paying It Forward Through Mentorship and Community

I was honored to be invited by the organizing team to join the Graduate Development core team after completing the program. I stepped into a leadership role and co-led the Social Pillar of the program in Singapore. From organizing casual lunches to hosting high-energy events like bowling and laser tag, I made it my mission to help new graduates feel welcomed and connected. The experience was incredibly rewarding — not only did I have the opportunity to mentor and support others, but I also experienced personal growth through team building, event planning, and cross-functional collaboration. It taught me that leadership isn’t just about guiding others — it’s also about listening, learning, and creating space for others to thrive.

Another key lesson for me has been the value of community. Dell fosters a strong culture of support, and I’ve always felt encouraged to speak up, ask questions, and seek help when needed. Whether it’s reaching out to someone on a different team for insights, brainstorming ideas with peers, or collaborating on a complex pricing challenge, there’s a spirit of openness and accessibility that’s truly empowering.

Of course, none of this would be possible without focusing on continuous learning. The business landscape is constantly evolving, and I make it a priority to invest in upskilling — whether through internal learning platforms, certifications, or staying current with industry trends. Dell provides the tools and autonomy to grow, but it’s up to you to take ownership of your development.

Ultimately, what has helped me progress is a combination of technical competency, curiosity, human connection, and a willingness to step outside my comfort zone. Every project, every interaction, and every challenge has been an opportunity to grow — and Dell’s dynamic environment makes that growth both possible and exciting.

Life Outside the Laptop - Finding Balance Through Creativity, Nature, and Trust

For me, maintaining a healthy work-life balance is all about being intentional with my time and energy. I make it a priority to fully disconnect during vacations — whether I’m exploring a new destination or simply spending quality time with family. Taking that time off helps me recharge and return with a fresh perspective.

On weekends, I turn to hobbies that bring me joy and help me unwind. I enjoy painting, dancing, and hiking — activities that allow me to step away from work, express myself creatively, and connect with nature. Dell’s Sports and Health Club also offers a variety of activities, including fitness sessions, padel matches, and climbing events. I occasionally join in to have fun while networking with colleagues. These small but meaningful routines help me stay energized and focused throughout the week.

What truly makes a difference is the supportive culture at Dell Technologies. My team and manager genuinely respect personal time and well-being. There’s a strong emphasis on flexibility and trust, which allows me to manage my workload without compromising my personal priorities. Overall, the balance I’ve found has made me not only more productive, but also happier and more fulfilled — both at work and in life.

Evolving with Dell — A Journey of Impact and Belonging

Looking back on my journey with Dell Technologies, I’m incredibly grateful for the experiences, growth, and connections I’ve gained along the way. From interning across multiple teams during my MBA to returning as a full-time data scientist and eventually transitioning into my current role in Services Finance, Dell has supported my career every step of the way. I’ve had the opportunity to work on impactful projects, collaborate with talented individuals, and continuously learn and evolve. The inclusive and dynamic culture here encourages curiosity, initiative, and the confidence to explore beyond your comfort zone.

What truly sets Dell apart is its people. The mentors I’ve met, the leaders I’ve learned from, and the teammates I work with every day have all played a role in shaping not only my professional journey but also my personal growth. Whether through programs like the Graduate Development Program or the everyday support of my team, I’ve always felt empowered to thrive.
