This is what Diwali means to me.
Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is a beautiful blend of tradition and celebration. As a child, it meant sweets, new clothes and fireworks. Now, it’s about honoring cherished customs, celebrating hope, joy and new beginnings. The festive lights symbolize the triumph of good over evil, and we welcome prosperity, seeking blessings for wealth and fortune.
Our Diwali is about timeless customs, lots of food and giving back.
Today we celebrate Diwali by blending traditional and modern elements. Some customs are timeless. I really enjoy giving the traditional oil massage called “enne shasthra” to my kids. Another favorite custom of mine is dressing up in absolutely beautiful Kanjeevaram silk sarees.
Our family focuses on a "green Diwali," lighting our home with traditional oil diyas, sharing sweets and decorating with fresh flowers, all while being mindful of the environment. This season is about tasty treats, sparkling lights and spreading joy! We prepare traditional goodies like crispy murukku, sweet adhirasam, melt-in-the-mouth laddu and rich mysore pak, along with savoury favorites like mixture and crunchy thattai.
The real fun is in sharing the sweetness! We love giving sweets to families and inviting neighborhood kids, especially those less privileged, to join the festivities. Together, we light sparklers and release sky lanterns, each child making a wish and sending it to the heavens.
I also love the Diwali celebrations at Dell!
Diwali celebrations at Dell are also something I look forward to every year! Diwali marks the beginning of the festive season, leading into the holidays and year-end. We celebrate with an ethnic day and a potluck lunch, where our team comes together, each bringing their cultural richness front and center at work. We share our unique traditions, delicious food and learn about each other and our cultures together. It’s a really fun and happy way to come together!
