Hi! My name is Sophia Loya, and I am a graduate of Texas Tech University, Class of 2023 (WRECK ‘EM). I studied communications and minored in advertising. I was born and raised in Austin, Texas. Outside of Dell, I love to read, travel to new places, try new restaurants and spend time with my friends and family!
Tell us about your current role.
I’m in my second rotation of the Marketing Development Program (MDP). My role is on the Analyst Relations team as an industry analyst experience project coordinator and customer connections. I assist the team with anything they need: research, recommendations, taking notes in meetings, operations help, etc. I’m getting the full experience of being on an Analyst Relations team and having to juggle analyst firms, announcements and what we need to be involved in as a team.
It’s nice to be in the office because most Austin-based MDP members sit together, so it’s easy to stay in contact with each other because you can just walk over and ask a question instead of pinging them. It’s helped those who are based in Austin get closer.

What does a week in your role as part of the MDP look like?
I start the week by meeting with my manager and other team members I have ongoing projects with. We chat about what I’ll be doing and any additional items I can take on for the team. I work a lot on team communications in my role.
On top of the work for my current rotation, I also dedicate time to the MDP. Typically, 80% of my time goes towards my role and 20% goes towards the MDP. I’m part of our MDP Culture Committee and MDP Merchandise Committee.
Mid-week, I usually work on my deliverables. Sometimes I have one-off meetings for the analyst firms as well. I get to sit in and take notes for the program lead on my team who runs the meetings.
I really enjoy lunches in the office. Sometimes, my MDP cohort and I go out to eat at places around Round Rock. If we don’t do that, we go to the cafeteria and chat about our weeks. It’s nice to be in the office because most Austin-based MDP members sit together, so it’s easy to stay in contact with each other because you can just walk over and ask a question instead of pinging them. It’s helped those who are based in Austin get closer. We also have happy hours and fun networking events through the MDP.
I round out the week on Friday with a few fun meetings and finish up any ad hoc items the Analyst Relations team needs from me. I have a MDP Coffee Chat with my cohort, a book club with a co-worker and a mentor meeting with a MDP alumni.
What’s your favorite part of your work week?
Probably all the calls I get to sit in on and either be a fly on the wall or take notes during. Through them, I get a better understanding of what the program leads do on a day-to-day basis. The meetings are fun because the analysts make endless predictions and really understand the industry, so they have strong insights for us.
I also really enjoy my one-on-one meetings with members of the team. I like being able to help where I can, be involved everywhere and help the team in a lot of different areas.
What’s one thing that you’ve learned in this role?
Details matter a lot. Especially when working with Dell Technologies World (DTW), there are so many moving parts. If you let one little detail flutter away, it’s hard to get everything back together. For DTW, the reports and documents I helped with went to my superiors, so if something was incorrect or if a piece of information was missing, that influenced what they read and how they interpreted the information. It’s important to read everything over and make sure the details are good and that nothing is out of place or missing, even small details like typos.
