The Summer Ana Ugaz Turned Into a Marketing Analyst

Ana Ugaz | Marketing Analyst | United States

Hi, my name is Ana Ugaz. I was born and raised in Lima, Peru, and later moved to Miami, a city full of energy and opportunities that helped shape my early career journey. I’m part of the Marketing Development Program at Dell Technologies, currently working as a Channel Partner Communication Strategist within the North America Regional Channel Marketing team, based in Austin, Texas. In this role, I focus on improving communications for our North American channel partners, ensuring that the way information is submitted, organized, and delivered through newsletters and emails is both strategic and effective. My career journey began at Florida International University, where I double majored in International Business and Marketing. I was actively involved in campus organizations like the American Marketing Association (AMA), which played a key role in opening doors at Dell.

Can you share what it is like to work in your current role?

Working as a Channel Partner Communication Strategist has given me a front-row seat into how Dell builds strong, collaborative relationships with its partners. My role sits at the intersection of strategy and execution: I develop and streamline communication processes, making sure that our messages reach the right partners at the right time in ways that support Dell’s broader business goals. It’s exciting because I get to balance the creative side of communications with the strategic lens of how those communications impact revenue, relationships, and partner engagement.

What was your experience like interning at Dell, and how did you go about securing the opportunity?

Last summer, I interned with Dell in Corporate Affairs under the Social Media team, where I worked on the Dell Instagram handle and supported projects like content creation, copywriting, and competitive analysis. I found this opportunity through Dell’s close relationship with FIU and the AMA chapter I was a member of. Dell hosted a workshop through our marketing club, and from there I was inspired to pursue the internship. That experience solidified my passion for Dell’s culture and impact, and ultimately motivated me to pursue a full-time role in the MDP program.

What steps did you take to turn your internship into a full-time offer?

I made it a priority to immerse myself fully during the internship. I gave 100% to every project because I knew I wanted to return as part of the MDP program. I took advantage of every networking opportunity, built meaningful relationships with mentors and peers, and wasn’t afraid to ask questions to learn more about the business. Beyond the internship itself, I stayed active at FIU, leveraging leadership roles and campus involvement to keep sharpening my skills and showing my commitment to marketing.

What advice would you give to an intern hoping to land a full-time role at Dell?

To make the most of your internship experience, be proactive! Don’t wait for opportunities to come to you. Volunteer, ask for stretch assignments, and show that you’re eager to learn. Network intentionally by building relationships not just within your team but across the company! You never know which connection might open the door to your next role. Asking questions demonstrates curiosity and engagement, so use your time to absorb as much knowledge as possible. Stay involved outside of work as well, whether through campus organizations or professional groups, as the skills and leadership experience you gain can truly set you apart. Most importantly, be authentic. Bringing your full self to Dell helps you build genuine connections and stand out in meaningful ways.
