A Day in the Life of Tom Kane 

In his role, Tom crafts  communication plans for state and local government engagement and works with his stakeholders in government affairs, marketing, operations and sales to build alignment across their aligned priorities. His responsibilities extend to writing blogs, press releases, talking points and reactive statements, as well as sharing Dell news and updates with industry associations and local chambers. Tom also leads the Corporate Awards and Recognition program, ensuring Dell is recognized across the company’s areas of leadership – like innovation, sustainability or our inclusive workplace. Tom writes submissions to apply for awards on behalf of Dell, and when the company is recognized, he works across the communications team to amplify the achievement internally with team members and externally with the public.  

Tom measures success through participation in advocacy partnerships, securing top-tier press coverage, and executing public affairs advocacy campaigns. He is committed to proactively mitigating risks and one of his favorite parts of his role is helping drive thought leadership at state and local events. Collaboration is key to Tom's role, and he maintains close relationships with his stakeholders to ensure an integrated approach. 

Looking ahead, Tom envisions deeper integration with marketing, government affairs and sales, allowing for greater impact as business priorities evolve. To achieve this vision, Tom continues to build relationships with stakeholders to strengthen their integrated planning capabilities. He is also enjoying leveraging AI tools and is looking for opportunities to scale use cases. 

Beyond the Office 

Outside of his busy role at Dell, Tom is a DIY enthusiast who enjoys tackling home improvement projects. He shares his home with two adorable sibling cats, Lilah and Clyde. Living in Massachusetts, Tom has the perfect backdrop for exploring New England's natural beauty. He loves day trips to the beach, marshes, forests and mountains. During the summer, he visits local beaches on morning bike rides and occasionally ventures to Maine for kayaking adventures. In the winter, you can find him skiing in New Hampshire. 

Career Highlights 

Reflecting on his career at Dell, Tom is proud of his growth within the Corporate Affairs team. Joining Dell right after graduating from Bentley University, he has had the privilege of working on diverse projects across executive and internal communications, public relations, and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives. This experience has equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of Dell's operations and the ability to drive meaningful change.
