Ace Your Application: A Recruiter’s Guide to Getting Hired at Dell
Natalie Anderson | Intern Operations Lead | United States

Hi everyone! I’m Natalie Anderson (Dawes), an Intern Operations Lead here at Dell Technologies. I was born and raised in Austin, Texas, and today I live just outside the city in Liberty Hill. I graduated from Baylor University with a degree in Corporate Communication — a broad field that allowed me to explore my passion for people, connection, and relationship-building. Shortly after graduation, I began my career journey at Dell Technologies. Over the past seven and a half years, I’ve had the opportunity to grow across different areas of the business. I spent my first two and a half years in Sales as an Inside Sales Account Manager before transitioning into Talent Acquisition and the Emerging Talent space, where I spent the last five years as a Campus Manager supporting universities and business functions across the United States.
Working with students, faculty, and early-career talent has been incredibly rewarding — helping others discover their potential and find the right path is something that truly energizes me.
What are the top qualities Dell looks for in candidates across different roles?
While technical skills certainly matter, I’ve found that the qualities that truly set candidates apart are the soft skills — the things that shape how people collaborate and grow within a team.
At Dell, we value candidates who demonstrate:
- Strong communication
- Determination and resilience
- Adaptability in a fast-paced environment
- A willingness to step outside their comfort zone
- A continuous learning mindset
- The ability to act as a change agent
- A commitment to building a strong personal and professional brand
These qualities show us not just what someone can do today, but how they’ll grow, contribute, and lead moving forward.
What’s the best way for candidates to tailor their resumes and cover letters for a role at Dell?
We love to see students and early-career professionals investing in themselves — not just academically, but through meaningful involvement and experiences. When tailoring a résumé for Dell, candidates should highlight:
- Campus involvement (organizations, clubs, case competitions, etc.)
- Leadership roles or responsibilities
- Personal or passion projects
- Community service or volunteer initiatives
We want to understand not only what you’ve done, but how you show up — that you’re someone who engages with your community, cares about the work you're doing, and is continually seeking growth. We’re not just looking for someone who shows up, works, and leaves; we’re looking for people who invest in their team and the environment around them.
How can candidates effectively showcase their experience and achievements during the interview process?
Storytelling is incredibly powerful. I always encourage candidates to help the interviewer feel like they were right there in the moment with you.
Using the STAR Method keeps your responses focused and impactful, but you don’t need to over-explain or include unnecessary details. Keep the story centered on:
- The challenge or context
- What you did
- The outcome and what you learned
Remember: interviewers are just people. They want to get to know you — your personality, your thinking, and what you’ll bring to the team. It’s about more than just matching a job description.
What advice would you give to candidates preparing for interviews at Dell?
A great starting point is to document your experiences as they happen — challenges you faced with a teammate, moments when you exceeded (or didn’t meet) a goal, or times you had to adapt quickly. When it’s interview time, you’ll have a library of examples ready to pull from.
I also encourage candidates to spend time researching Dell:
- Our values
- Our future goals
- Our culture and priorities
When you can clearly articulate what resonates with you and why, it shows that you’re genuinely invested in the opportunity.
Finally, come prepared with thoughtful, meaningful questions. Go deeper than the basics — ask about team dynamics, challenges the group is solving for, or growth opportunities within the role. Insightful questions show curiosity, intentionality, and genuine interest.
