From Intern to Account Manager: Genesi's Career Progression at Dell Technologies 

I am proud of my job’s purpose and the way we operate. We are able to deliver solutions to our clients, accompany them in transforming their workspaces, and contribute to their productivity and growth. I love that our purpose is based on advancing and promoting human progress with the power of technology.

Have you participated in any development programs? If so, tell us about it.

I am currently in a coaching program called Releasing Your Potential, which is a 9-month leadership program for women that includes coaching and mentoring sessions. One of Dell Technologies main goals is to position women as leaders within the organization and providing us with these program opportunities is a great way to accomplish this. Within the program, they help us define what our goals are and formulate steps to achieve these goals. We also have group sessions consisting of women from different regions and roles, which allow us to network and broaden our perspectives of what’s available within Dell.

I see that you have had excellent progression at Dell, is there anything you have learned along the way that has helped you progress in your career?

Definitely! Bringing enthusiasm and working strategically is a must to be productive. Also, take the time to understand the role that you’re assigned. For example, in my Sales role it’s very important to understand the business, the objectives, and the priorities of the company so we can deliver the best product and/or service. Dell is a world of possibilities, and if you have an idea of where you want to go it’ll be easy to navigate and reach those goals.

What excites you about your organization/role?

I love that Dell is a very open organization, making it so much easier to network and try different things. Also, diversity and inclusion are an important part of Dell’s values. I am always excited to interact with people in different backgrounds and talking to senior managers and leaders from across a variety of areas. Having so many people with unique perspectives is a very exciting and enriching experience.

How do you maintain balance in your daily life at Dell?

It is important that we maintain balance in our day, and we must know what this means and looks like. We should know the difference between what’s urgent and what’s important, so we can organize our schedules effectively. I don’t want to say that you will never work a couple of extra hours, but the important thing is that it doesn’t become your norm. You must be able to identify which activities take up most of your time and figure out how to reduce those. Part of my philosophy is, "don’t work more, just work better.”

Any advice for someone looking to start their career at Dell Technologies?

It is important to determine what you like, what you’re passionate about, and what your strengths are. I believe that we are all good at something and once you discover what it is you should use that to start your professional career. Also, preparation is very important. Today we live in a globalized world and opportunities are open to all, so we must stand out and be open to new possibilities. The only thing that we know is the world is constantly changing and technology will continue to lead the way of that change.
