My Journey in Compliance:

Over a decade ago, I took my first steps into the world of Compliance, unsure of the vast opportunities that lay ahead. An industry that was once limited to banking has since expanded into almost every sector. This transition was exemplified when giants like Dell, known for innovation and technology, emphasized the role of compliance in guiding sustainable business growth. My association with Dell Financial Services (DFS) was more than just a career move; it showcased the widespread application of compliance across industries. Today, I see opportunities far beyond traditional roles, some in areas I had never imagined.

Why Compliance:

The responsibility is immense. It's not just about preventing losses or avoiding fines, it's about upholding Dell's esteemed reputation, ensuring it remains at the pinnacle of standards. What excites me most is the field's dynamism. Compliance is always evolving. Adhering to laws, promoting honesty, upholding high ethical standards, and building a trustworthy and ethical workplace environment are today's foundational pillars and challenges for any organization.

My Role at DFS:

When I began at DFS Singapore captive, my primary task was to establish a comprehensive compliance function from scratch. Leveraging my vast experience in regulated entities, I designed a process that integrated seamlessly with various departments, such as sales, operations, credit, pricing, marketing, and legal. But it wasn't just about enforcing rules; it was about fostering a culture of control, collaboration, and understanding.

Key Skills for Compliance:

Vigilance is paramount in this field. The consequences of an oversight or misinterpretation can be dire. This emphasizes the need for meticulous attention to detail. Many companies have faced fines and reprimands for such oversights. In essence, having technical knowledge with a human touch is a crucial element in this field.

Not Just a Workplace:

At Dell, my role isn't limited to enforcing rules. It's about understanding and working closely with the broader team. This approach ensures that both business objectives and regulatory requirements are met. It's crucial to demonstrate that compliance isn't merely an obligation but a powerful tool to enhance business.

Biggest DFS Achievement:

One of my most rewarding achievements was the creation of a new compliance process from scratch. The task of pioneering something entirely new, anticipating potential challenges, and then refining it to perfection was both daunting and exhilarating.

In a world where compliance might have once been viewed as an overlooked aspect of business, today, with DFS, I stand as its guardian, protecting both DFS customers and suppliers.
