Additionally, Maria always wanted to work for a large company and live in a multinational environment, so the recruitment area combined both. Working in executive recruitment excites her because she’s able to exercise her psychological interests, analyze profiles, and match candidates with their most aligned positions. In addition, it is a position that constantly challenges her due to the level of demand and diversity required.

With all her expertise in the area, she shares 10 tips for participating in a selection process at Dell Technologies.

10 tips for a successful interview:

  1. At Dell, we have competency-based interviews. The interviewer asks questions looking for experiences and situations the candidate has already experienced, so be prepared to bring up important cases from your professional experience. Select a few situations and keep in mind the role you played in each one, the challenges, how you acted in those situations, what you learned, and what the results were.
  2. Answer questions using the EAR model (example, action, result). This way, you can show a logical and structured sequence of your achievements.
  3. Show willingness to answer questions (energy/motivation) and keep your body and mind on the interview.
  4. Regarding communication, be polite and use appropriate language and tone for an interview. Listen to the questions carefully and think before formulating your answers.
  5. Tell the truth; don't say you have experience in something you can't prove later or give an example of in the interview.
  6. Be yourself. We all have strengths and opportunities. If asked, don't be afraid to talk about your areas of opportunity and how you've been working to improve them.
  7. Do your homework, research Dell, and find out why you want to work with us. Search for information about our history, mission, values, products, main services, etc. Our careers website (jobs.dell.com) is a great resource! If possible, talk to people who currently work or have worked with us.
  8. Prepare some questions to ask at the end of the interview (about the company, area, and position). Show that it is important for you to understand whether our company, area, or position matches what you are looking for in your career. A selection process is an evaluation of both parties!
  9. Always proofread your resume before applying for a job or sending it to the recruiter. Make sure your resume information is up-to-date. Also, as we are a global company, it is important that you also have your CV in English, as the hiring manager or interviewer will often be a foreigner.
  10. Speaking of languages, if you are applying for a position where English is not the first language, English might be a requirement for your role. We are a global company with many teams in different locations that work together, so most positions at Dell require some level of English. If you have been called for an interview that has English as a requirement, it is because your profile or resume states that you speak the language, so be prepared to talk in English at some point in the process. One tip is to know the information on your CV by heart and practice in English beforehand by asking a simulation of questions with a trusted friend or family member who also speaks English.
