At Dell Technologies, we are enabling women to achieve their goals at each point in their journey through development, leadership, networking opportunities and more. While we have multiple initiatives for this, one initiative is mentoring girls in STEM programs. Misuly joined Dell after participating in the STEM Aspire program – a mentoring program that Dell offers to women in STEM. Hear from Misuly as she shares her experience in the program.
Participating in the STEM Aspire program was a transformative experience for me. It wasn’t just about learning more about Dell; it was also about personal and professional growth.
During my time as a mentee, I had the privilege of learning from my mentor, Lucía Rodríguez. She openly shared her journey to Dell and the challenges she faced as a woman in STEM. Many of these challenges resonated with me, especially battling impostor syndrome. As women in STEM, we often feel that our skills are not on par with our peers. What I loved about our sessions was that they didn’t feel like formal classes. Instead, we shared knowledge and explored how to integrate the soft skills I had chosen into my routine and commitments without it feeling like a chore.
In the technical classes, we fostered an environment where all questions were welcomed and considered valid. There was no fear in expressing doubts, and participation was encouraged. We even had the opportunity to dismantle equipment as part of a hands-on workshop.
After participating in STEM Aspire, I had the chance to apply to Dell, and I was eventually accepted along with a friend from the program. In my months as a new hire, I have felt the same welcoming atmosphere and willingness to teach others that I experienced from the mentors at STEM Aspire.
I highly recommend this program to all girls in STEM who wish to expand their technological knowledge. It not only provides the opportunity to learn more about technology, but also to connect with new people. Moreover, it is a space where they can challenge themselves and grow professionally.
