Reaching New Heights: Tanisha's Internship at Dell Technologies

Tanisha S. | Talent Acquisition Intern | Chatswood, Australia

My time with Dell Technologies in Sydney, Australia has been very different from any other working experiences I have had, but nothing short of rewarding and invaluable. I am a full-time, final year university student completing my Bachelor of Business Administration and have been an intern for the ANZ/SG Talent Acquisition (TA) team since October 2021.

During my time at Dell, I have had the freedom to choose my workdays, fluctuate between full and part time work to accommodate for my university schedule, and adjust my workdays during exam periods, enabling me to get important work experience whilst prioritizing my studies.
My journey is a prime example of why where you are today should not deter you from applying for a role at Dell. My experience prior to this role did not align with HR or TA as it was mainly retail sales and marketing, and sales and marketing were the fields I was most interested in. However, I applied anyway. I was transparent with the hiring manager, Andrew Parker, during my interview and expressed that whilst I was intrigued by the opportunity to work in TA, I always hoped to try and test my skills in other fields. This wasn’t a problem for Andrew. He ran me through the skills I would learn in TA and how they would align with marketing or any other role I ended up in. Upon starting in the role, he even put me in the APJ branding team, allowing me to apply my existing skills, learn more about marketing, and get exposure to other areas of the wider business.

When I started as an intern, I was being trained by the Candidate Experience Team helping with offers, interviews, Workday, and anything that helped the recruiters. After only six months, I was given my own requisitions and began recruiting. During my short time at Dell, I have been part of so much more than I ever imagined such as co-running the Millennium Women Leadership Accelerator Programs, co-running the first Australian STEM Aspire mentorship program, planning university relations webinars, becoming a steering committee member for the Employee Resource Group: Women in Action, and appearing in several global and national LinkedIn campaigns- some of which were even posted by the official Dell Technologies account with over five million followers!

I have gained so much knowledge, experience, and confidence from my time as an intern, and working in TA. I have been fortunate to network with many professionals from all different fields who continue to coach and guide me. I cannot stay an intern forever, but due to the encouragement and opportunities available at Dell, I am now equipped with the skills and connections to move into a full-time role within the business once I graduate.

No matter how junior I am, my impact is seen and felt through all that I do, and my amazing team never minimizes that or makes me feel like I am any less valuable than the next person. I cannot recommend starting your career at Dell enough, whether it be as an intern or graduate, or even just participating in one of our development programs like STEM Aspire. Here’s to what my future at Dell Technologies holds!
